Analysis and Conclusion

Philips definitely has a winner on its hands. As Philips’s flagship sound card, the Acoustic Edge offers spectacular performance and features. The performance is comparable if not better then the SB Live and CS46xx based products. The added QXpander features separate the Acoustic Edge its competition by allowing the user to utilize 5.1 with all audio sources. The Acoustic Edge is definitely one of the best cards on the market right now.

We all know the performance is spectacular but Philips decided to not stop there. To showcase the card’s DVD and gaming capabilities, Philips bundled the Acoustic Edge with 3 full version games that support EAX and Power DVD 3 6 channel edition. As mentioned above purchasing the software alone would cost more then what you pay for the Acoustic Edge.

No matter what you want to do with a sound card the Acoustic Edge offers something for everyone. For gamers and music listeners you have the added ability to play all your games in 5.1, for DVD enthusiasts the Acoustic Edge offers spectacular performance. The Acoustic Edge is definitely worth your $79-99. If you are interested in upgrading your PC Audio system to 5.1 and looking for a sound card then Acoustic Edge is a worthy choice.

Edit: The full retail games are not included in the retail package of the AE, sorry for misleading everyone, a full retail CD of Power DVD is included though.

Overall Score: [ 9.7/10 ]
