Directron Hydraulic Case

Directron has been an online retailer for many computer related things such as motherboards, processors, video cards, etc… They also sell their own branded cases which are attractively priced. A few weeks ago Directron became a sponsor for Tweak3D, shortly afterwards I came across a case that seemed reminiscent of the older Alienware cases but it seemed to be somewhat different. Within a week the case showed up at my front door.

The case I received was Directron’s New Design Hydraulic case in black. Though the case is called a hydraulic case, it really isn’t hydraulic. It is called hydraulic because when the front slides down, it slides down with a hydraulic effect. Nonetheless the case comes in a stylish black, silver, or beige color scheme. Compared to the original Hydraulic case (not pictured), the only difference between the new and old design is the new design features front USB ports as a slightly different front bezel. Other than that the cases are nearly identical from a far.

One of the first things that you’ll notice on the New Hydraulic case is the side blow hole with a gold fan grille. The fan used for the blowhole is a cheap generic Molex style fan but it does its job as it’s relatively quiet. The blowhole is a nice touch as it saves people time from cutting a hole with a Dremel.

Turning around to the back of the case you’ll notice that the New Hydraulic case doesn’t come with a power supply, as for $36 you shouldn’t expect to get one anyways. Directron also has an excellent write up on how to choose a Power supply that can be found here: http://www.directron.com/psu.html. Nonetheless the back of the case looks relatively generic for being an ATX case. One complaint I have about the case is the lack of a rear 80MM spot for an exhaust fan, as there is only room for a 60MM fan. This is most likely the reason they chose to include a side blow hole.
