It's sort of semantics but I'd say no, because the specter of the worldwide communist movement isn't there, it's just one Russian dickhead. This aspect of the Cold War being a series of proxy wars is similar and so is the idea of Russians exploiting geopolitical instability (thanks geedubbya!) for their own gain is also similar.
No but the American dominance of the past couple decades is fading with the resurgence of Russia and China.
Right here. Add in the fact that Americans don't want to acknowledge this or do what it takes to improve the situation.
Don't we still spend more on defense than the next 20 countries combined or something? Again, I thank geedubbya for starting an illegal, unnecessary, destabilizing war that zapped our resources and our willingness to engage. And this from the guy who excoriated Gore over the Balkans in the 2000 debates claiming, "We are not the policemen of the world" all the while disregarding Richard Clark's dire warnings about Al Queda and Bin Laden being a direct threat to the United States. Worst president in US history by far. And I haven't even started on his economic policies that damn near put us in a depression. But, you know, this year we got a guy twice as bad nominated by the GOP. [/rant]
(imho) Not just the GOP, the dems aren't showing much either. We're getting close to a destination we started on back in the 50's. Nothing has changed, except the salespeople. I don't really blame Bush. We'd have gotten to where we are regardless of who was in the oval office. I look at the world and know that divided forces are easier to conquer or control. The amount of division in the American public seems to correspond to the amount of dissatisfaction we the people have with our leaders. The more pissed people are at the guv, the more division will be promoted. It keeps us pissed at each other rather than at the real culprits. It's like in the middle east. Imagine if all those different brands of the same religion were to unite. It's easier to keep them in check while they're fighting each other. Divide and conquer......it's a tried and true tactic. Russia knows this and will take every advantage they can from it. Expect big moves from not only them, but from China too.
I have a few friends in the Russian Navy, and actually chatted with one a few months back. In am honesty, it's just a pissing match between Putin and Obama. Their people are tired of the BS, and want to be back at peace with us. In fact, the guy invited my family (again) to go visit him again in Moscow. ~Will Courtier~
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/russian-submarine-clock I don't see what's so special now one of those 24 hr watches..
Ha, I did get one of their surface warfare pin, a star pin, and a button from Sergey's cuff of his dress over coat. I'd love to take him up on his offer to visit Moscow. I think it would absolutely be a blast. And, I'm sure that Sergey would drink me well under the table once again. The national sport in Russia is Drinking. And, they don't lose to anyone when playing their sport. We downed almost half of a gallon of Smirnoff blue label vodka, while taking shots with his men of Sailor Jerry's rum. That day was insane... It was seriously what you would expect from any stereotype you could imagine of them. They paraded me around on their shoulders, and my wife walked in (without her having any knowledge of what all was taking place). They stopped moving, turned off the music, and all stared at her. She just stared at me, and asked what was going on. I told her I was drinking with my Russian friends. She said she didn't know I had Russin friends. I told her that I didn't either, but we were having a hell of a time. Sergei even had two of his guys fold a basket of laundry for my wife, to thank us for taking them into my home. Ahhh, great memories.... ~Will Courtier~
Are you saying those Rooskies are taking advantage of Bigwill's good nature and are trying to recruit him into The Red Menace?
So the US situation with Russia is Russia hacked the DNC and only released only SOME of the emails this weekend presumably holding back the real juicy ones for the next few months.
