Glad you started this thread. To me the Fire seems like an incredibly good buy. Droid, on decent hardware, and Amazon Kindle too, all for $200? Somebody explain to me why I shouldn't buy 2, or 3?
The Android it's running on is a forked version so it won't get the OS updates Google cranks out and you can't really use the Android market. Not a big deal if you don't mind Amazon's app store or by manually installing apps. If you've got a problem with being stuck in a sticky ecosystem like iTunes, Amazon is aiming to do the same sort of thing and is focusing on making the Fire a consumption device. Nothing wrong with it being a consumption device as it is just continuing the Kindle brand which is all about consumption. Just don't expect a true or awesome Android tablet.

Thanks Smersh, looks like I'll be passing after all. Besides, Best Buy will have a 7" Droid tablet in their Black Friday ad for about $20 less, with no such restrictions.

IPS maybe? IMHO the Transformer is a way better deal unless you're dead set on 7" and would be my choice of android tablets were I to get one.
I'll dig a bit deeper. In reality I'll likely not buy either. I'm not really in a buying mode at the moment.

Lol, just remembered this thread when talking with a friend about the same thing and made the same mistake and realization. Double lol.
yall motherfuckers gonna have me spending monies on that transformer. but i dont like the color. the color would match great in my car, if i could create a cradle or in dash dock for it.
