2 deaths, over 100 injured. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap...yKfegQ?docId=5050c0af7c7f481997755374b6d63160
I read an 8yr old is one of the deceased which I hope is not the case. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BH632g8CQAAu6vj.jpg Sad day and I hope they catch the person; people involved. Broke the link to the image. From here on if we could link to victim pics and note what they are please. -Smersh
From phantom's link: They [the two explosions] occurred about four hours into the race and two hours after the men's winner crossed the line. By that point, more than 17,000 of the runners had finished the race, but thousands of others were farther back along the course. The four-hour mark is typically a highly crowded time near the finish line — both because of the slow-but-steady recreational runners likely to be completing the race and because of all the relatives and friends clustered around to cheer them on.Fire for maximum effect, eh? Whoever it was must have known what they were doing. I almost wonder if the unexploded bombs weren't meant to be found as red herrings. I almost hate to say it, but could this be the work of North Korea? (I doubt it-- I just had this crazy idea that all this posturing by Jong Un is a prelude to him defecting)
I wouldn't put it past them. They made threats they would attack without warning. Also in 1951 Walter A. Brown who was president of the Boston Athletic Association denied Koreans entry into the Boston Marathon because of the Korean War. It's possible they had some contact with a terrorist organization to carry out these attacks today.
Honestly, as much as no one wants to label this as terrorism the fact that it occurred on the day Federal Income Taxes were due, on Patriot Day in Boston, and in Boston itself coinciding with in the timeframe when most runners normally finish the race leads me to believe this was domestic in origin. Of course who knows with the BOLO out for the dark-skinned / black individual turned away from the secure area but I still would not be at all surprised if this was not linked to AQ or the like. Edit: Also, my account manager emailed us an hour prior asking us to attend a counter terrorism clinic coming up.
Whatever the motive, whoever the perp, someone's getting their V on. There's so many pissed off people/nations that it could be any one of ten thousand bastards responsible. In the middle east, where they experience this shit nearly daily. tTey must think we're a big bunch of rich pussies for making such a big deal of this one incident.
It appears the bombs were "Pressure Cooker" bombs; pressure cookers stuffed with shrapnel and black powder. This is apparently a common device taught in the training camps of Afghanistan. The time delay between bombs is considered to be a sign that the bomber had experience making these. Still, it's possible for a lone nut-job to have pulled this off, since the bomb-making "how to" is available on the internet (shock!) On the same day, in Iraq, 50 people died in bomb blasts. We have indeed gotten off quite lightly in comparison.
I can see it now. Bombs: the new mass shootings weapon of choice. Guns and bombs aren't a problem.....nutjobs are. We need to get congress to fund a billion dollar study on how to outlaw nutjobs.
Don't count your blessings just yet, Mr. Whiskas. It's sure to be pointed out that the ease and anonymity of obtaining black powder, compared to getting one's hands on fertilizer or hydrogen peroxide, will be made much of in the near future. I expect this to happen as soon as the tragedy-inspired act of unanimity in Government has worn off. ... and you do realize that if you give Congress the power to define "nutjob", we might all fall under it, right? Human history is a history of humans killing humans. Tribalism is in our DNA, just like in chimpanzees, who also commit the same acts of violence as humans, including war. The sad fact is that no human is ever very far from being a "nutjob." In fact, we are all far closer to it than we'd be comfortable admitting to ourselves.
true that! There's only one thing left to do then: outlaw freedom and liberty. I've posted it before, and I'm going to do it again. We'll all be safe and secure with these: And for the times we need to venture out to buy TP and other necessities: [/sarcasm] Seriously though, did anyone else notice the "nip-it-in-the-bud" posturing/politics that the gov took?
??? What do you mean? They were both near the finish line, in classic "second bomb gets the folks coming to help the victims of the first bomb" style.
One ploy used is to use the first, smaller one, to scatter people towards a second, bigger one. But this shit has to stop, else we become another middle east with daily suicide bombers. Everyone would do well to be vigilant without crossing the line to hypervigilence. Notice more around us and rat anyone out that may cause these things. This day of cell phone cams and public surveillance should make this crap nearly impossible to get away with. Not that I'm a fan of being under a watchful all seeing eye. The response by the public to the request for any leads has been helpful and may just help the ones' we pay billions of tax dollars to keep us safe. WTF...... I'm just rambling on.
I've heard that some tinfoilers are linking this bombing to the recent nosedive in gold prices. [knock wood] I have a weird feeling that though the(se) perp(s) may be good, he/she/they are going to get popped pretty quickly, like within another week.
The nosedive in gold is simply the result of the recovery of the stock market. Those folks just screwed their reynold's wrap a little too tightly around their heads. Edit: Keep a lookout for this guy...
I think it's more a pissed off guy or couple of guys with nothing left to loose. The stock markets may be recovering, but the middle class is still suffering. Just miserable excuses for humans taking their crap out on innocents only to prove a point or to lash out. Man I miss the sit-ins and peaceful disobedience of the 60's/early 70's. I may be pissed at the system and the greed, but I'll be damned if I'm going to make anyone hurt over what I believe so long as I get to voice my pissed-offedness.
I don't think that's the dude. Pic from Reddit, he's on left rounding the corner: Edit: I realize there's two suspects, but Goofus' guy doesn't match the ones of the guy in the white cap.
And now he's dead and his accomplice is on the run. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013...419?feedType=RSS&feedName=domesticNews&rpc=76 I take it back....it was the black hat guy that got rubbed out. Forigne entities and brothers to boot: http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/201...other-on-loose-after-firefight?lite>1=43001
When told one of his nephews was killed, the Uncle said "He deserved it." We'll doubtless know more about the history of these two, sent from Russia (Chechnya, but not much difference right now) with love, now that the dam has broken.
They're going to smoke his ass when he appears. No way they'll let him live after they killed the MIT cop
I am getting tired of the media coverage that is being heaped on this. Really all events so far could be summed up in 10 sentences, yet the media is covering these ten sentences worth of facts non-stop, long past the point where there is any use for them to do this. At this point, they're just flapping their lips just so they can be on air in case anything happens, which also means they'll be jumping at every rumor and misinformation tidbit. Here we have the perfect example of what is wrong with the mass media landscape.
