What did you work on today?

    Damn, everybodys shop looks so organized compared to my garage where parts, cars, chunks of cars, and tools are scattered all over the place. I spend half of my time looking for tools, lol.
    The plan for the Integra is whatever is laying around + whatever I can get for cheap + nitrous or turbo. :D

    Btw Dan, I'm sure you know but those GearWrenches are fucking great. Makes things go so much faster when you can't get a ratchet in. For instance, compensator arm to trailing arm bolt on any EF/EG/EK (Civic) or DA/DC (Integra).

    And why do you have a phone from 1994 on top of your tool cart/box?

    It's the company phone. I wouldn't be able to have such a clean garage on my own. This place is 3000 sq ft or so, with 2 lifts, a sink, concrete floors with mats, and every tool you can imagine.

    doesnt the 2zz have a 10:1 compression? looks like some moderate boost time :p
    i remember some guy at the track had a fully na'd out 2zz.. freaking cosworth pistons..

    and nidex hey thats not half bad.. i'm working with a damned flashlight and jackstands in a apt garage..

    and jackstands in a warehouse/chopshop when i can :p

    If you're pulling the crank...might as well do head and cams while you're doing that and just be done with it...

    Would save you time later...and RACEACAR!

    Still have to center, shim and anchor it...and I still need to wire up a 220v outlet for the PAU...and then...plug n' go...only taken 3 months to get to this point...

    Replaced the alternator on wife's camaro. Actually turned out to be pretty easy, only took about half hour. :)

    HD, now I'm even more envious of your shop.

    Haven't updated this for a little bit. Put a gas tank + all new metal lines + new sending unit in a '92 Accord. Guy failed to mention that it didn't run before he brought it over, went to crank it and nothing. Was thinking "great, what did I fuck up"... but checked for fuel, had proper pressure at the rail. Was getting weak spark at the plugs, good coming out of the coil. New cap and rotor and it was good to go.

    Did a starter and rear heater hoses in a '02 Grand Caravan. The metal part of the lines were rotted out and new ones were $135 from dealer, so just ran heater hose back. The top starter bolt on those 3.3s is a huge bitch, had to take off the coolant overflow tank, exhaust mani heat shield and unplug the ECU so I could move the harness in order to get my socket + ratchet on it. Other than that, went smooth.

    Cylinder 1 misfire on E250 van. Customer brought it by quick, swapped the coil with another and ran the codes again. Cylinder 5 misfire! So, got a new coil and threw it on.

    Motor is almost pulled out of the '04 Ram, everything is off/disconnected and it's in the truck sitting on the 2 mounts. Probably going to leave it because the new motor will not arrive until the 18th and we have no room to leave it inside.

    Went and diagnosed "clunking and grinding" on a '99 Bonneville, passenger front wheel bearing is DESTROYED and sway bar end links are broken. Will be fixing that over the weekend when the bitch comes up with some money.

    had to hook up 8 cameras, run ethernet, and all the av cables for 10 hdtvs and got whole resturant/sportsbar server and its satelites and little printers all hooked up.. holy crap what a job it was!
    then of course the directv guy just comes and installs the receivers and says it was so hard to run wires

    ha i'm kind of happy that my car doesn't have the little thing that protects it right now cause my rachets love falling in the benzo..

    nidex do you commonly see fully fuel injected cars with cap and rotor? (i have a 98 mirage as a beater, and was wondering if i should do cap and rotor as well as part of a full tune up)

    Pretty much anything up to mid 90's is gonna have cap and rotor, some exceptions both ways. So to answer your question, yes. If you're gonna tune it up might as well, but I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", check the spark coming out of the distributor and if it's good, fuckkkkk it.

    Not today, but It got new shocks, CVs, head unit, speakers, subs, amps, added cigarette lighters and replaced the starter in the last two weeks... Oh yeah, and I ripped a 3.4L out of a 2002 4runner. It'll be nice having 200HP in this truck.

    EDIT: I installed a race radio(2 meter) too.

    It's the 4runner, not the Taco. The Taco has a lot more money in it than my truck. I don't have more photos at the moment :(

    Spent this past week working on projects around my shop. Picked up a few new chainsaws in the last few weeks, so got them all going. Still need to sharpen a bunch of chains, but that doesn't take long.

    Also got my bike (1977 Harley FXE Super Glide Shovelhead 74") out and running again. It's been sitting since last October/November sometime. I went on a ride back then and bent both valves in the front head (exhaust valve stuck open, intake valve hit it, and bad news....). Got the head rebuilt, and then had my latest surgery on my shoulder which drug me away from the bike. I picked up a new set of push rods (both were bent from the forward head due to the rockers sticking up and the push rods slipping out of the cups). Installed push rods with a new set of push rod tubes, adjusted the carb, and she was running again. Had to pick up a few new things since parts were misplaced since I worked on it last, and also had to adjust the clutch. But, she's going again. Got my Christmas presents installed in the bike (lever action starter solenoid, which when fully engaged automatically turns starter, and a spirit bell). The lever action starter solenoid basically takes a huge load off of the battery during starting (which was always weak on these bikes), so it now pops off fast and without any issues at all. Pretty neat deal. Also got the sissy bar installed and bought/installed a new back rest for my wife (since she can ride comfortably now that she isn't pregnant). Now it looks like we will be doing some riding this weekend!

    So, just got ordered a new motor for my bike. Picked up a semi-stock Shovelhead 80" motor with solid lifters. It is a brand new build, with aftermarket cases. Got it really cheap, from a reputable builder up in Washington State. He built it for a high dollar chopper (frame was an original Indian Larry), and the customer ran outta cash and bailed. So, he sold me the motor to get him out from under it. Motor has <100miles, just enough to adjust the valves and do a rough break-in. This motor will solve all of my oil leaks, provide much better power, and will remedy my issues with burning almost as much oil as gas.

    Can't wait to get it installed!

    Been awhile since I updated this.
    Since last post... the '04 Ram motor has been finished. I was getting scared when it was time to start it up, went to prime the oil pump, used 2 quarts... went to crank it without injectors or plugs in, and no oil pressure. Flushed it out and did it again, still nothing. Was thinking maybe I got a bad oil pump in the reman motor, but I ended up calling the hotline and they said you need to use 5 quarts to prime it. They also mentioned that I was the 10th or 11th person that called with that issue. I've never seen it take so much oil just to prime a pump before.

    Did a steering rack and tie rods on a '98 Sentra, was pretty easy... just 4 bolts holding the rack in, a metal line, rubber line, tie rods and it was done. Used my patented "spray paint" trick and got it to the point that the alignment was perfect, lol. Well... perfect enough that a person wouldn't be able to tell, I'm sure if you threw it on the alignment rack it would be a hair off.

    Did all new brake lines and both lower ball joints on a '96 F150. Got so much rust on my face when I was running the lines :[ ...very tedious job but that's because I always use the stock clips to hold the line in, and bending line with a socket over the rear end is a pain.

    '85 Nissan Stanza (who has those anymore?!) rear brakes... new hardware, shoes, wheel cylinders, everything but the adjuster bar. Even a segment of line from the center of the car to the back. This thing was rotted to all hell, I'm surprised the drums didn't just shatter when I was hitting them.

    Starter on a '92 or '93 Taurus 3.0, and that '99 Bonneville that needed a wheel bearing and sway bar links is now mine, for the grand total of $200. Runs good but is throwing a P1811 trans code, same as an '02 SSEi I just scanned today. Must be a common thing with the Bonnevilles, I'm gonna look farther into that tomorrow and hopefully I can have this thing for sale very shortly.

    Tomorrow is fuel pump day... my brother's Civic has a rotted line or rotted tank, can't see without the tank being dropped... but he just went and bought a new one, so I'll be swapping the fuel pump + sending unit over, and running new lines if necessary. Hopefully I can knock it out in like an hour because I don't charge family members for work :\
    After that, also need to do a pump on that '02 SSEi, the guy was driving it and it just cut off, almost started a few times but then didn't. Went to hit the gas tank to jar the pump and that didn't work, so I pulled the access panel off and removed the feed line and had him prime it/try to crank, and no fuel. Hooked the multimeter up to the connector on the harness and it was getting power, so fuel pump it is! I would've done it today but by the time I got done diagnosing it was about to be dark.

    I'm sure there's more than I'm not remembering, but this post is already long enough.

    I drained and filled my transmission fluid last week. I then drained and filled my transmission fluid again this week. I will do this again next week. I also cleaned plastic/rubber dashboard for the first time since I bought the car brand new in 2005. It looks so clean I don't know why I didn't do this earlier.

    why are you filling it twice? just to make sure you get everything out? didn't turn the torque converter?
    how much of a mess was it? i have to do it on a few cars.. and did you use a jack for the tranny?

    As far as I know for Honda's (I have a civic) to do a full transmission service you need to drain the transmission fluid and refill 3 times. Each drain and fill only releases 2.5 Qts of fluid from the transmission which is only like 60 something percent of the entire fluid in the transmission. When you do it the second time you now have replaced something like 85% and the third time its a little under 95% of new fluid. I am sure nidex can give his 2cents on this.

    Not sure what you mean by turning the torque converter, I am just doing the drain/refills on the weekends for 3 weeks in a row so all the fluid mixes during the week. I know some people say you can just drive around for a bit and then drain/refill but I don't usually drive much on the weekends and I am not going to waste gas driving around without a purpose.

    The mess is less then doing an oil change. Just imagine doing an oil change where all you have to do is remove the drain plug and refill the lost fluid. No removing of a filter and the mess associated with that (damn you honda and your angled oil filter)

    I lifted my car using the el-cheapo jack my car came with in conjunction with my drill so I didn't have to sit and spin the damn screw to raise my car. I then put the car on jack stands. When I released the fluid I dropped the car again so its level while draining and also filled it with fluid while the car was level.

    Yeah, doing the drain and fill doesn't get all the fluid out. The "proper" way is to get the trans flush machine, disconnect the lines going into the cooler, hook the machine up, and run the car. That's the only way to get 100% of the fluid. I've been pretty busy lately, mostly with my own shit. Did plugs on a '06 Silverado 1500 hybrid today, pulled the motor out of my friends Civic hatch, and pulled the motor out of my Integra. The Integra motor is going in the Civic, and I'm going to put something else in the Integra. Had the Civic motor out in a little over an hour, those cars are like legos, lol. Also did a wheel bearing, sway bar end links, and exhaust on the Bonneville I bought for $200, and then sold it.
