I am super cheap and just use my ISP's usenet access which is limited to two connections that go about 35k/s each which is fucking super slow (comes out to about 6gb a day or so). I have been dealing with it for a while but now my queue is so big it will take 200+ hours to complete everything I want. Giganews is a good service but at $25 a month its really expensive. I am not looking for any kind of crazy retention times since my ISP's retention is 200days or so for binaries (outsourced to giganews's servers).

I know newshosting.com has a 45 day retention and unlimited data transfer for $15 a month but does anyone use anything else thats closer to $10 with unlimited data transfer?

I finally broke down and i am now paying for a usenet service. after shopping around, this is the BEST bang for your buck:

    Power Usenet

$15 a month for unlimited downloads and 105days retention. for the times when i need 200days retention i can still use my ISP's servers. Plus first two months are $10.

I have had it for 6 hours now and have download about 17GB worth of shit. goodbye torrents for good.

EDIT: if you want to sign up, let me know so I can refer you :)
EDIT: and if you are going to use usenet, you have to use newsleecher 3.9, it is the shit, it downloads the par2 index files first, verifies all the rars and repairs them if needed, unrars the files and even deletes the rars when done, its fucking amazing.

think of it as a place were you can download anything you want, for as fast as your connection goes (10mb for me, as long as you have an unlimited provider) without having to upload anything back like bittorrent. also, everything is always released to newsgroup servers first. For example i was able to download the x264 720p 1.2gb rip of Heroes tonight in 20mins and watch it before it aired. that would have taken me ages to download with my previous newsgroup server and at least an hour or so using bittorrent because of the delays in releasing stuff to bittorrent and usually stuff that just getting released onto bittorrent does not download at your max speed. also, you dont have to worry about downloading something thats like 100days old like in bittorrrent and having 1 or 0 seeders, you can still download at your max speed with newsgroups.

No, its still illegal, its just another avenue of getting "files"
for now it is under the radar of most copyright holders so that makes it all the sweeter.
