After starting, commenting on and, just reading hundreds of threads on this forum I've noticed something. A few of you that are American seem to blame America for everything. Doesn't matter what subject is brought up......."America brought this on" is a response I'm seeing more frequently. Do most of you believe this and just don't speak up or is it a minority that's just very vocal. If it's the latter, what do you suggest America should do to politically to make us perfect. If that's attainable? I am keeping an open mind here.
I have a hard enough time keeping my own life straight without getting gobbled up in politics. There are a few key issues that I'll get riled up about (civil rights, specifically gay rights, is definitely one of them), but for the most part I do my best to understand the issues at voting time and shine it otherwise. Although now that I'm a tax paying citizen, tax and spending issues make my ears perk up more often. I would hazard a guess (based on what I've read here) that someone like Wiskas would say that I am a big part of the problem and I need to "wake up." (There's also no malice in this statement... just an observation.)
We have a long and glorious history of bringing things on ourselves! This isn't really a surprise. If you look through history, almost all of our problems internationally, stem from our "solution" to previous problems. Taliban from Soviet resistance in Afghanistan, Iraq, during their war with Iran, and so on. Those who don't think our current problems with radicalized Arabs and Muslims stem solely from our ridiculously over-protective, unwavering support of Israel, and our need to have pro-oil governments in place, are probably smoking something really interesting! America however, is NOT responsible for that Manhattan-sized iceberg that broke off from Greenland, nor the floods in Pakistan and China, nor the fires in Russia. I think our problem could be summarized quite simply as: "We need to mind our own business more."
American self loathing is all the rage, all the kids are doing it. Goofus is right, we do a lot of stupid shit. But so does every nation. You can acknowledge the stupid shit, try to avoid it in the future, and still have pride in your country. I just really get tired of all the "America sucks" talk. Particularly the people who've never been anywhere else, they have no idea...
There are 191 other countries in the UN, and 9 permanent and non permanent members of the Security Council; Let someone else play "World Police". "America" itself isn't to blame, America is not some all knowing being. The name United States of America is a brand, the blame lies on the influential people behind our brand. However, I find politics to be rather boring and I have absolutely no desire to partake in them. I'm not registered to vote, and at this time, I have no plans on registering any time in the future. Ignorance to what is going on around me at city, county, state, and national government levels is a level of bliss I enjoy.
I have nothing against our country. I just believe there's a trend towards not utilizing common sense and too much living high on the hog and fantasy. Living an ideal life based on ideal values only applies to living in an ideal world. Life isn't all about ongoing warm fuzzies. To sum it up: or:
lol at the coyote rancher meeting. i dont understand the question or assertion here, whos blaming america for what?
FUCK THIS WESTERNIZED BULLSHIT COMMUNIST FASCIST COUNTRY, THEIR FEWTBALLS, BASSETBALLS AND KUHRISTIAN GUN TOTING REPUBLIKKKLANS
I don't see how questioning the things that happen here and the things our government does, or wanting to improve things, is hating America. The extremists that flew those planes into the WTC hated America. While we're arguing about what direction this country should be headed in and pointing fingers at each other, corporations, with the help of our government are fucking us over. I think we should get out of the Middle East completely and focus on rebuilding our economy and infrastructure. Perfection can't be achieved, but a lot of things could be improved (education, healthcare, taxation). Oops! I'm not American. Sorry for posting in this thread.
There are a few people here that would argue with you about that. That's why I brought it up. Just a few recent responses in threads is what pissed me off. As MSP said..."It's all the rage."
inside job. and its not all the rage. its just more obvious now because people have a voice that can be heard on the internet, radio, tv, etc, can attain internet resources for facts or fiction to curve their ideas... and people are just more plainly open about everything now. you cant expect every citizen to keep their mouths shut and succumb to what government officials say... people are constantly seeking truth and if they have to fight and argue about it, then so be it. plain and simple, living in america and living under how our capitalistic system has built this nation is nothing more than comfortable. Sure there are probably much better living conditions, hidden, elsewhere in the world, blindly free from radical ideas of your nation being overrun by big brother and terrorists... but you gotta admit, we have it easy over here. I think alot of the "america hate" stems from what it COULD turn into... alot of people fear that whats going on now will have major repercussions that we honestly dont know in the future.. So fear, anger, and hate go hand in hand. Almost like a self defense mechanism. places i have absolutely no interest in living in.. south america, mexico, africa, russia, koreas, austrailia, canada, france, polish and all those icelandic countries... I just see them as uncomfortable, behind on technology, dangerous, or just plain boring...of course thats kind of poorly biased, but im just going from what ive seen and heard. some of those places i would love to VISIT, but not live in.. Would love to visit japan, uk, germany, vacation islands, but no desire to live there.
The fuckin Forefathers and their whole crossing the ocean for freedom bullshit... seriously, why not just submit? LOL. LOL. LOL. You glot somewhere beter to go? Go! HOLY SHIT! You just called the USA a "brand"? LOL Get a fucking clue. Someone has to be in charge (the way this world works atm), if not us, someone else will be. Wow. Do you want to be Russia's Bitch? Nah, didn't think so. *Shakes head at this whole thread*
Yes I did, can you give me a better way to define it as a "thing" so it can receive blame from ill minded individuals?
I was thinking more of things like: The Whiskey Rebellion Prohibition The Spanish-American war, where we declared war on Spain for their abuses in Cuba, and promptly invaded... the Phillipines... where we defeated the Spanish, and proceded to do the same abuses there as the Spanish did in Cuba. More recently, the WW-I fight against the Ottoman Turk empire, which ended in the installation of the House of Saud thanks to Laurence of Arabia (and support for Wahhabi, the original source of radical fundamentalists who fought for them. This one is England's fault!) The post-WW-1 redistricting of the entire World, which led to most of the current ethnic conflicts like the one in Rwanda (thanks to President Wilson. That one is our fault!) The Cold War covert operations which installed strongmen like Noriega and Saddam Hussein. The crushing of the democratic government in Iran and installation of the Shah. The resistance to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, where we basically funded and trained terrorism to Al-Quaida and the Taliban. The Revolutionary War was pretty much England's fault!
Yup, there's a reason that the USA is the leading economic/military power and it's not because of it's citizenry actually having big kahoneis.
