well this just put a huge fucking damper in my life.. im seriously gonna feel the effects from this loss... dunno about you guys.. EDIT: yo, check out the new splash screen for oink, WTF!!! oink.cd - the number 1 site in the world for waffle recipes "the number 1 site for waffle recipes" is there a hidden message within this sites source, picture, and choice of words?
There's going to be a crackdown, everyone knew it'd happen sooner or later. you can blame the movie and/or recording industry if you like. Bottom line is, taking and passing along something for free, that was never intended to be "for free" will end sooner or later. Looks like it may be sooner in some cases.
i tried by ip and still got this result: This site has been closed as a result of a criminal investigation by IFPI, BPI, Cleveland Police and the Fiscal Investigation Unit of the Dutch Police (FIOD ECD) into suspected illegal music distribution.A criminal investigation continues into the identities and activities of the site's users
A download does not equal a lost sale. And I'm surprised that they can get so many people to believe it is.
Yeah, certain stuff I download that I would never actually buy. And in some cases a download has resulted in a purchase! Such was the case with Oblivion. I downloaded and played it and like it so well that I'll be buying the GOTY edition shortly.
Lol, I like how they try to scare people on the main site, saying they're going after users. It'll never hold up in a court of law, or maybe it would due to complete ignorance. But unless they have proof of your IP being connected to a tracker while downloading 'illegal' content, they can never prove what you downloaded was legal or illegal. For example, I'm a big MSTRKRFT fan, and Jesse from MSTRKRFT posts some of their remixes on that site and lets fans download them completely free. None of the remixes are protected under any RIAA bullshit. So, there's no way they can come after you (or I) for downloading 1-200MB of non-RIAA protected stuff. They just can't prove it.
You have no idea what the Oink servers tracked.. For all you know, they could track each person's IP address, times, what they uploaded/downloaded, etc. I never used Oink, but I'm sure they had some kind of ratio system, so who knows what else they did track.
My question is how long before they go after PirateBay? Aren't their servers located in Sealand, aka international waters?
im just hoping that the backups will be used elsewhere safer, like sweden.. they made backups of that site fluently, so really hope... dude is an IT admin, you cant tell me he has some tricks up his sleeve JUST in case something like this happened..
all good till you have an investigation over your head... i wonder how much he would be fined or imprisonment?
Yeah, but how much is on a hard drive that, if not for nabbing it for free, would you have purchased. I really notice how the rationalizations and justifications really fly when people try to oaky-doke what they know is wrong to begin with. "The trueth stands on it's own, it doesn't need supporting statements and rationalizations to endure, the trueth just is." You guys and gals can do whatever you want, doesn't change anything in mistawiskas world. for me, I feel better about myself and my belongings when I pay for what I use and support The hard work that produces it.....But that's just me.
