sopa is going to pass. i got this from a very high level source. the deal is done and agreements have been made.
I don't really think he's going to be wrong though. The gov is in a position to need some of those provisions contained in the legislatio(s). The word "piracy" is just the PR phrase that the legislative titles use to get it past the public. read em' and weep:http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.3261: from a post on reddit:
Have you been through it? I'd be interested in looking at the more insidious bits but it's a big document...
Ok, I gotta ask the rhetorical question... WHY would Dow Chemical, Oakley, Zippo, Tiffany & Co., Phillip Morris, Nike, Harley-Davidson, Monster Cable, Marmot, Adidas, and 3M have any interest in internet piracy? Those are all physical product manufacturers: I HIGHLY DOUBT, they own much if any intellectual property that would be any use if stolen...
the actual list is longer than that, and all the paid ppl involved. my source is from one in that list. one that i honestly wouldve never thought would even be involved in such a thing.
Counterfeiting. Look at the recent domain seizures, they've all involved sites that sell or link to sites that sell counterfeit or gray market merchandise.
yea a lot of those companies are merely in it for international import/export of counterfeit goods. which i completely understand because i dont wanna buy some counterfeit bullshit... like for example, theres counterfeit ignition coils, counterfeit everything on the internet.. its easy to get duped into buying trash. sometimes knockoffs are fun and cheap to have, but sometimes you want reliability or authenticity for resale purposes. i completely side with these companies.. but theres other interests involved that will have a stronghold on the internet.
It helps to know who/what the parent comanies are of all those involved. http://www.forbes.com/2009/04/08/worlds-largest-companies-business-global-09-global_land.html
Torx = No fortune teller. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal/2012_01/putting_sopa_on_a_shelf034765.php
That's a nice little bong. The world needs more bongs and less government interventions. The motivation by industry is not going away.....ever. Sure there is always going to be piracy, but the way the economy has turned down, the industry wants to mitigate every penny loss they can to insulate themselves as best as possible from the economic decline. They've been working up to this for awhile now and will not stop until they get exactly the terms they dictate. It is going to be, if not by SOPA/related legislations, then by some other peice of legislation. It will not go away short of a total all out consumer revolt and boycot. It's all about the bottom line.
Lurker, the article is bullshit. Shelved as in sent back for more edits. Sopa is strong, and the blackouts are still planned for wednesday. Articles like that are trying to curb the blackout protesting. Dont be fooled.
It is still a democratic government we have here. This is a pic of our guv: This is a pic of our votes: Think about it. How many votes do we get?
I watched a Hong Kong horror movie last night that had a bong used as a murder weapon! Dream House (2010), check it out. Lot of hot naked Asians too...
its gonna come to a point where we either forget about it and or not even care to follow and protest anymore... then thats when they'll push it through. trust me.
Maybe not forget, but it'll be ample time to "smoke-screen" the whole bill(s). That proccess is already underway because people have been shown what it's all about and have been yelling about it. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/17/us-usa-internet-piracy-idUSTRE80F1Q320120117 If someone notices you hiding in plain sight, you need to up your diguise a bit. Standard legislation tactic.
It's why a lot of legislation is just plain fucked up and ill-concieved. You mix what industry wants congress to do for them with what the people will tollerate and one or all of three things happen: A) Nothing gets accomplished in DC B) Bills are passed (and added to) that just plain do not work in real life. C) Big government gets bigger
