The guy is a knucklehead. He'll lose quite a few sponsorships as a result of this. Sure, smoke the grass. But when you're in the public eye and have that sort of public image you don't do that sort of thing anywhere that can be seen or photographed by the public.

he might loose a couple but i doubt that many sponsors would punish a young guy whos an olympic gold medalist just because he was photographed smoking grass...:smoke::smoke:

I don't think this is as bad as people are making it out to be. The guy has more olympic gold medals than anyone in the world ever. If anything, this makes weed look good :weedman:

Just means I can no longer use smoking weed as an excuse for being lazy. If he can win gold medal smoking weed, why can't I do my homework?

Yeah, if anything an Olympic super-athlete/champion smoking weed is good for the image of pot.

I'm absolutely positive that marijuana will become both legalized and completely socially acceptable in my lifetime. Hopefully sooner than later though, as the negative social stigma can be quite a drag. :D

Honestly, there's not much of a platform to criticize marijuana on. Just like with alcohol, there are going to be people who abuse the substance and in turn contribute to its negative social perception. That's just part of life though. Darwinisim FTW! For those of us who can enjoy in moderation, marijuana is a-okay! I'm not a lazy stoner in the least! I thoroughly enjoy getting high and DOING THINGS! Yes, there are people like that.

If you don't want to smoke pot, drink coffee, eat Frito Lays, masturbate, etc, then DON'T! But don't try to pass your "ethical" code onto me. If I wanted a cookie-cutter ethical standard to live my life by, I'd go to church.

There's a staggering number of individuals out there who are indeed regular marijuana smokers. These people not only have jobs, many of them hold better jobs, live in nicer houses, and drive better cars than you!

I was thinking the same thing

Never underestimate the power of big business and lobby efforts. What industries will tend to be threatened if the wildwood flower is legal? Booze and medications! Now check the annual revenues brought in from pharmaceuticals and alcohol. Back in my day, we thought just as you and , rather militantly, pursued the legalization of said herb (google: N.O.R.M.L.)
I was a card carrying member of the Y.I.P., a politically active (google: Hoffman, Leary) buncha folks that did all we could to get it accepted and legal.

Today, there's not a chance, you guys (last two generations) are doing nothing to get it to become a legal activity. At least nothing compared to the
efforts we undertook. You honestly believe it'll get legalized without a bigger lobby than the pharms and booze have? not in your lifetime, sad to say. I honestly believe if it were legal, the prisons would see a definate decrease
in bisiness too. I advocate smoke over jug anyday, although I don't touch either and would rather have a life of total abstinance from all drugs.

I'm glad it's not legalized. I don't smoke anything and it's bad enough walking around here and there, and putting up with the stench of cigarettes. Imagine the smell of weed everywhere. No thanks.

I dunno, I look at it in terms of it's affect on society and think keeping the status quo would be best. Decriminalize possession but keep public sale and display illegal. People compare it to drinking and I think that's a falsity. When I was chronic my head would be fuzzy for days afterward, not so after a night of drinking. I just know that we already have a population of stupid, lazy, ignorant people and reefer being available at Walmart isn't going to help matters. We're at a point in our history where it's time to roll up our sleeves, not another joint. Unless we're to slide (more) into a 2nd rate country.

    This:
i had to ask my roommates to quit the other night bc the smell was filtering into my room, regardless of my windows open and a/c blasting. smells like ass and i dont want it soaking into my clothes. don't care if you do it as long as it doesn't affect me.

Drinking and smoking have always had the complete opposite effect on me. Sometimes when I drink a lot, I'm not right for days. Never had a weed hangover.

also, this is (kind of) old news. some stuff came out about him being possibly loving the reefer in 2004 when he got his dui.

side note: good move with the facial hair. now he looks less like a monkey and more like idb.

    +1

I'm a tank when it comes to drinking, so after a weekend of partying, I'm in a bit of a funk for a few days afterwards. That doesn't cut it for me. I have a girlfriend at school and a GPA to maintain and I just can't be at that disadvantage.

Getting drunk has its time and place, but generally I'd much rather just take a few bong rips and hang out with my friends. I don't get stupid when I'm high (I guess you'd call that high-functioning) and as long as I don't smell like it, you'd never actually know I was high.

I'm sure I would have defended pot when I was using to. It wasn't until I got out of it that I realized the subtly destructive force it had been in my life. Everybody's different I suppose.

I don't smoke it anymore, probably because my friends don't... so it's not around. ;)

I'll always vouch for its positive effects (that at the very least in my case, 100% counter-acted any negative effects). It effects everyone differently though, that's for sure. Some people smoke cigarettes, some smoke a tobacco pipe. Some drink liquor, some smoke weed. It's certainly not deserving the taboo Americans give it, aside from the legality.
