... and our income tax is going up by 32%. The Legislature overrode Governor Dumba... Governor Rauner's veto.

I predict a Republican takeover of the illinois legislature in the next election because of this.

There has to be a double majority to pass new taxes here. But there are many many ways to call them something else and charge the taxpayer without consent or representation.

I'd cross that border to Missouri if I were you. This happened just in time for me to move back!

Tax and spend economics...it's the new norm. There's only one problem, and that's math.

Missouri has it's own set of problems, as I can attest to, when I cross the river into pothole country! :)

My sister, two nephews, and niece, all live in Missouri. Mostly near Branson, MO, except the niece, who lives near Fort Leonard Wood because her Hubby in in the Army, getting his edumacationing.

You want to talk about bad math? Our provincial government did constant projections on how much in royalties we would get back from potash mining, oil & gas, etc. and then based on those crazy projections, would budget based on that, taxes, etc..

Wow. They should have looked at it and said "We THINK there is going to be 50million in royalties but maybe we should go for 10, just to be on the safe side". That way, any extra royalties that DID come in, could go into some kind of savings, start building interest, and that way, our deficit wouldn't be so bad because they royally fucked us now.

So because of that shortfall, taxes went up, LOTS of stuff in the budget were cut completely, or reduced significantly, including education. Absolutely stupid and brutal.

Yes, there doesn't seem to be any consequences for any bad decisions that governing bodies make. I'd like, to see accountability as well as punishment for the incompetence and negligence
    in some decisions. Dream on.
    MaesterB says thanks for this.

People who are competent and studious don't go into politics. Only people who THINK they are competent and studious go into politics. They fail in the business world, and blame their failure on anything but themselves, and go into politics to fix the things they blame for their failure. Then they proceed to fail at that too.

The worst kind of idiot is the idiot who doesn't think he's an idiot...
