things just keep getting worse and worse. our votes mean nothing and there is nothing we can do to better our country anymore.

is this really the beginning of the slow but inevitable decline of our civilization?

After the last few elections I've come to the obvious conclusion that there's very little difference between the two parties. And the differences that we fight about are mostly cosmetic and pointless and just a distraction to keep us busy while Washington fucks up our nation.

Does anyone want to buy a tinfoil hat? I have several models to choose from.
I can't believe the shit everyone gave me when I started talking about this stuff
years ago. It's been happening since 911 and it's not going to go away.
When do I get to say: "I told you so"?
If a technology exists, the man will use it.
After all, the man spent a lot of hard earned tax dollars to
subsidize the R&D on most of the tech, search, DB we take for granted.
in essence, we're paying those clowns to do what they do for to us.
The whole time that ass-wipe was campaigning, the NSA was operating the DB
    that cost us billions.

It would appear that our way of life is being destroyed by those hijackers and it didn't even cost them
millions of dollars. Let alone trillions of bucks. In reality, 911 was only the justification for what was
planned long before it happened. Much the same as gun control was planned long before the rash of mass shootings of the last decade.

People are actually surprised that their phone conversations are recorded/listened to? Wow... come on, don't be naive.

Oh it's not just phone records, it's your shopping habits, everything you watch on TV, and every last thing you do or say on the internet, every picture, vid or statement you've ever made online.
My worry is that this is just the very tip of the iceberg. if electronics with the capability to send info back to the service provider are involved, you can bet your bottom dollar it's sitting on a HDD in Utah.

wiskas, I was almost with you til you lobbed in the gun control bit. Your comment reeks of that 1961 memo.

I strongly believe Obama has-been/will-be a better president than either McCain or Romney would have been, and that the country is better off with the dems in power. I think he's been severely limited by an obstructionist opposition that is more concerned with undermining his presidency than with governing the country.

However, on the issue of internal privacy, his record is simply abysmal, and there's no one to blame for it but he himself. This is one of the few areas where the President can operate nearly independently of the opposition. Chenubbya certainly did. But on this Obama has chosen to fuck us right in the ass with his own cawk.

The prez isn't where the violations to the constitution are coming from. He's more-or-less just a fall guy and a cheer leader.
You give them any excuse and they will use it to justify and sell an agenda to the masses. That's the way it's been done since way before 1961.
That's just plain politics 101 right there.

    another one....

It isn't like either company had a problem with selling user info to the marketing companies, so why not give big brother a cut of the action? Oh and don't forget Cloudera (started by 3 former FB engineers), also an I-Q-Tel (CIA front) beneficiary, provides large scale data analysis and storage services to FB and Google. All one big happy intelligence and data mining family.

Revealed: Google and Facebook DID allow NSA access to data and were in talks to set up 'spying rooms' despite denials by Zuckerberg and Page over PRISM project

'I think it’s important to understand that you can’t have 100 percent security and then have 100 percent privacy and zero inconvenience,' Obama said. 'We’re going to have to make some choices as a society.'
[But those choices will be made without anyone knowing about them and you'll only find about what we're doing through leaks and we intend to investigate those leaks and prosecute those responsible]

While is agree you can't have 100% privacy, calls and the net are in the home where a reasonable expectation of privacy exists. But of course, blah blah blah giving up either, one deserves neither.

This has been a tough month and a half or so for our president. For those of you that voted twice for President Obama you have to be seriously upset with him. For people that supported The Patriot Act under President Bush (Me!), I never thought it would go this far and, honestly thought it would practically come to an end under Obama. It's one slap in the face after the other recently and when you think about it, the things we're learning are pretty scary folks. The President and his staff have pretty much thumbed their noses at us. For us Conservatives, it was a slap in the face on his part to make Rice the new National Security Advisor after Benghazi. Oh well.......suck it up I guess?

After the last year, does anyone really trust the guv as a whole anymore? State department, IRS, CIA/FBI domestic spying, the lies, the cover ups, the targeting?

I'm actually starting to think a "Shadow Government" isn't that crazy of an idea anymore. Wiskas: I wear a 7.5 in a tin foil brim by the way.

Rice represented the government with false talking points. She did so several times. I don't claim she personally lied but, I DO claim she knew what she should have said. She didn't question any of it? She behaved like a good soldier and for for it, she got promoted. Either her arm was twisted behind her back in a fashion or she is simply retarded. Regardless, she should not be the new NSA to POTUS. It's a middle finger to everyone that knows what happened. What an ego our president has. NOW HE gets ballsy on his 2nd term.

Rice stated what the intelligence agencies were stating. And then was part of continued Republican obstructionism led by the cheerleader McCain (who is quite literally meeting with terrorists).

Congress' reduction of funds for embassy security is partially to blame for Benghazi. And Harry Reid is to blame for allowing the bullshit 60 vote rule to stay in effect in the Senate.

^^^I thought that in the last two elections.
The choices we've been forwarded are the real finger flip at the people.
