The post-it says it all :p

My profile doesn't look noticeably different from what I can tell, so that's nice.

Don't remember a thing, just waking up around noon and laying around for ~5 hours. Very little pain, unless I try to swallow, and who knew swallowing was important? :p It hurts every time, and I can't talk that well yet, but the recovery shouldn't actually take as long as I was worried it might.

Glad to hear it went well and the recovery isnt actually too bad. That'd be the worst part.

Just a head wrap pretty much or is your jaw wired?

It's just a wrap to keep some pressure on it and keep bleeding down, I also have a big ice/cold water thing to keep swelling down.

They used to have to wire you shut, but these days you don't have to be wired.

They wanted to break my jaw and put a steel plate in it - (TMJ) My dentist advised against it since there's no pain. After seeing your post-op pic I'm glad I decided not to...in fact I think I'll go take a couple norco now....

    T3D doctors ftl :p

I'm actually feeling pretty good right now. Not in much pain, and swallowing has gotten much easier.

But oh man, I just accidentally took two TABLE-spoons of my painkiller (syrup form so I can swallow it) instead of two TEA-spoons.

(damn small markings on the cup)

    Goodnight :p

My Dad had his jaw wired shut back in the eighties after they rebuilt the roof of his mouth, he had a pair of "wire cutters" zip tied to his wrist in case he had the urge to puke.

One of my friends college buddies was standing out on his front lawn one night, and some random methhead or something ran up to him out of nowhere and clocked him right in the jaw, breaking it. Had to be wired for months, and had to keep the same thing with him because of course puking could cause him to choke and die. And he was also JUST off his parents insurance, and now is like $15,000 in debt, due to a random act of violence.

Yeah, I probably would have skipped the procedure. I'll all for taking care of your teeth and all that, but I personally think there's a lot of scamming that goes on in modern dentistry. For example, teeth checkups every six months? What the fuck is that all about?!? I'll tell you - too many dentists and too many student loans. There's a reason they have one of the highest rates of suicide of any profession.

Well hopefully we can reform healthcare to include things like free preventative care and checkups. Going to the dentist every 6 months isn't a bad idea it's just too expensive under most insurance plans.

So, what are you eating since you have to pretty much keep your mouth shut all the time?

Yesterday I drank a Slim fast and ate a yogurt, that is. Can't chew anything yet, and can't really open my mouth more than ~1/3". As movement improves I should be able to at least swallow things like small and soft pasta whole, things like that.

Be interesting to see how much weight I loose ( and muscle mass :( )

i dunno, if you jut your lower jaw out past your upper, you'll see immediately that only a few teeth in the rear make contact and actually do the chewing.

that would piss me off, no telling what other issues can come up in the future like fiddy said.. teeth wear, etc etc

Well I took the bandages off and took a shower today. Pretty swollen up as expected:

    Oh yah, lookin' good.

Minus the obvious swelling, it doesn't really appear to have changed my profile, which is nice I suppose. (they also made two incisions in my cheeks to put the screws in, you can see the stitch right in the center of my cheek)

Eating sucks, I made a real meal today....

...then chopped it into the consistency of vomit.

Just some whole wheat pasta, spicy Italian sauce and veggies, and in the back there is a kiwi, banana, Asian pear, nectarine and strawberry yogurt smoothie.

Eating sure is tedious, still can't really open my mouth, so I kind if just suck things through my teeth.

But, still feeling pretty dang good, so can't complain too much.

You may want to stick to soups and chowders for the moment. Or load that pasta-consume into a colostomy bag, go to a restaurant, unload it and chow down, freak everyone out and get arrested! :)
