I believe they're going to start that actual process sometime around 11:30am eastern time. Apparently, it's in the Constitution that the new President has to be sworn in before noon.
At noon eastern time, nine west coast time, that the swearing in starts, and the speech is right after that. As for the cost. A) It's a non issue. B) It's employing Americans. C) Americans want a fucking party!
It must suck for him though, because that short oath should be the clip to be played around the world The speech was great though. Oh, and I liked how he mentioned the non-believers in the makeup of America. Props.
the VP of my company has an assault rifle at work now and says he brings it so he's prepared when obama gets assasinated and the race riots start....i'm like a fish out of water here... i got to watch obama get sworn in, but couldn't watch the speech. good things i'm tivo'ing all of MSNBC's coverage
Smart man. I was watching the streaming feed from MSNBC at work and then it went down. I had to run to the breakroom to catch the rest of the speech.
That's what the BBC was saying during their coverage this morning, at the folks they were interviewing that had completely unrealistic notions about who Obama is and what he will be able to do. "He's just a man after all..." On a related note I called my wife at about 1PM to see if Obama had fixed the economy and attained world peace yet. She said "not yet" but she would call me right away, "no later than 3PM for sure".
if anyone has a quality link to it, post it up. I'd like to check it out tonight or tomorrow if i have the time.
lawl, the day hes inaugurated the dow sinks 332 points. now taking bets on the date of impeachment...
Actually, it was the Chief Justice who bobbled the oath! He just took Obama along for the ride. The money had to be spent for this inauguration, just because there were so many people who came to it. They estimate there were over 1 million people there. That calls for some massive preparation in infrastructure and security.
I watched it for a few seconds then turned it to something else. I didn't get caught up in the historic hysteria and brain dead coverage of the media the past week and a half. If Rev. Wright was doing the prayer instead of Rick Warren I probably would have tuned in just to hear the goofy things he might say.
same here. The only kind of history that interests me is the kind that changes human evolution, such as a magnetic polar shift, an asteroid strike, WWIII, etc......apocolyptic scale shit.
I was retuning our converter box, since they changed the channel allocations last night, so I surfed around. ABC had the only coverage I could watch without wanting to punch the commentator's faces out. Why do so many news organizations feel this pressing need to have 3 interviews and reports per minute, all truncated in the middle of a sentence to go to the next truncated piece? Why all the talking heads? Grrr. At least ABC kept the cameras on the crowds and events, with Jennings' restful voice as a background. I ended up watching the whole thing till after the Obama luncheon (I wanted to get a look at the tableware they were using, which was supposedly a replica of the Lincoln china set). I went to the bathroom during the poetry reading. It was that bad. My favorite parts were the quartet who played the Williams composition, based on the "Gift to be simple" song, the benediction from Dr. Joseph Lowery (which was pretty funny toward the end!), the Obama flubbed oath-taking, and Obama's speech, which hit on many points that I personally felt myself.
I don't think thats a sign of lack of confidence in Obama, American's(to me at least) seem almost euphorically confident in him right now. There was more bad news in the UK about their banks and their own bailouts, I think thats the biggest reason.
Didnt wanted to make a new thread, so just posting in this one. Obama's first executive orders... first executive orders
No kidding. Anybody know what the price tag was on that thing? But who didn't know that the first black US president would ride around in a Caddy?
