"if it works, don't fix it". On the other hand, if it's not working, fix it or try something else. Whatever happened in the past year, doesn't seemed to have worked very well.
Honestly, the downtime experienced on this site is about what I experienced from chase.com and all their downtime in the past year. Did it happen? Yes. Was it really that big of a deal? No.
Dan did you know forums like anandtechs go down every night for a couple of hours? As far as I'm concerned these forums are as stable as they come! Oh and what do you guys need from me? I haven't received any PM's.
I have been a lurker here for years and glad to see that everyone is concerned about keeping this place running. Thank you Dan for keeping it up and running for so long and for being willing to continue on.
Sorry I haven't been very active on this thread/Tweak this week, busy week at the tree farm, but I'm absolutely willing to work on the server transition and set up cron scripts for regular server backups. Also, whatever you guys decide as far as having a main page, I'm in for that too. I'm a huge proponent of CMS-driven websites and have a good deal of experience in establishing and administering sites like that. I'll let you guys steer the T3D ship, but I just want to reiterate that I'm willing and able to help with some of the tech stuff. <3
I haven't put my two cents in. I'll stick with you guys, don't expect too much financially from me at first though. My life is different radically from two years ago and I find myself coming here less.
The site seems totally stable now so I'm not worried about keeping it that way, but I do want to shift some of the little things I don't do anymore over to anyone that wanted to help, particularly moderation of new members and eventually the bigger admin/content stuff if we want to see the site grow. I'll post more about the new user moderation soon, I need to make a little write up showing how it works: basically that's what's so bad about tweak now is we have zero new members and I need help fixing this, if we look at some of the posters who have changed and helped the site in recent years several were not original members. I'd like to see a lot of new people to keep it interesting again.
I don't post usually, but I read the site regularly on my RSS feed to see the headlines. I would throw in a few bills to help with bandwidth/server space if needed.
