I don't care for her, but I agree with what she's saying. And I don't particularly feel like she needs to apologize for anything. If the black community would like people to stop saying that word then they need to stop as well. I can't use a particular word because of the color of my skin? That's about as racist as it gets.

It's really be about relationship and the context when used. For example, if someone I'm close to calls me a spic, I wouldn't care because I know they mean it in a joking manner. Or even if they were angry at me, I know them and know they said it in the heat of the moment with no true ill wishes towards me.

The person can be white, black, brown, blue, yellow, or orange (not purple though, I am fully racist against purple people) and I wouldn't take it as being racist. Now if I don't know you and you say that to my face.... well, we have a problem now.

black guys don't say what she said, they say "nigga" lol

I really don't think any kind of racial slur should be used. actually, where the hell did all of those names come from like gook and stuff. It doesn't make sense to me, does anyone know the origin of all the slurs used in Gran Torino? lol

Around here people say their friends are their niggas (black or not).

It's a little painful to hear "******", it's like a slap in the face even though I'm not even black.

I don't use them, I don't know anybody that uses them and I don't hear them except when I'm around teens and wannabee gangstas down town.
I tend to believe that if a person wants to associate with or live in an area where speech like that is used, that it's all part of that life. But when people want to
grow up and become adults, there is no room for it, no sense in it and.......oh well, it's the young people that are building the world for themselve to grow old in.
I'm getting too tired fighting for causes. Bottom line, It's going to be a different world, I won't have to live in it, you all will.

Yep, and that's why I don't think she should have to apologize. She wasn't saying it to anyone in a hateful manner, she was trying make a point about how it's used. Crude, but not racist.

Damn, I can't believe I missed that! (I listen to Dr. Laura at work or on my afternoon commute 4-5 days a week.)

I wonder if it was bleeped out on the radio.

I would say I agree with her 50-60% of the time, and she's absolutely right here. That being said, if the lady would have given a more concrete example, like "How do you black people like fried chicken, watermelon, and grape kool-aid" or "how do you black people like being in jail all the time" I think it could have been a more productive answer for the caller.

And this... goes for all slurs in my ears.

It sounded like a setup to me and it completely backfired. Dr. Laura didn't say anything that was offensive or.....liable. No apology necessary.

I think as a radio host you should be censoring yourself a little better. I'm not saying to water the program down, but there are just things that aren't acceptable to say on a radio show, and you should know that as a professional host. If you want to say "fuck" or "******" on the radio your name needs to start with Howard and end with Stern, because no one else will get away with that shit.
I will agree with her stance, but she talked over the lady and just came off as a total bitch. If you call a radio advice show you generally don't expect to be talked down to like your problems aren't real. I'm sure Dr Laura would be equally offended if I called her show and said something derogatory towards women. Just because you're not sensitive to an issue because it doesn't affect your daily life doesn't mean it's not an actual issue.

I take it you don't listen to the show much... this is definitely a common occurrence. Although most people need to just STFU and quit providing useless details about their issues.

If one listens to talk radio they're weak minded? Why do you say that? The written word is more "High Brow" than listening to someone?

Just listen to it. Most of what I've heard is severely slanted one way or the other, and they whip people into a frenzy and repeat the same shit over and over. Fucking brain washing. This is why I listen to the BBC, they state the facts in a dry, straightforward way, like only the British can do. And in addition to that I actually hear about news from around the world. The whole time American media is blathering on about Miley Cirus's latest beaver slip I actually hear details about the floods in Pakistan, etc. Most talk radio here panders to people who like to hear what they like to hear rather than truth or real events.

On this I have to agree. I rarely listen to talk radio anymore because it's either far left or far right. I prefer my news straight and to the point without someones "opinion" of what they think the news is about. I don't care what Mr. or Ms. Fuckwad "Journalist/Entertainer" thinks about this issue or that and if they try to tell me how I should think or what action I should take about whatever the fuck they are promoting they can byte me.

    lol mince.

yea i dont know how this dr laura conducts herself in her usual routine, but damn she didnt let that woman talk at all.. lol. I love how talk show hosts manipulate the volume control, turn down the callers voice and turn their mics up.
the lady didnt even sound like a black woman, sounded like a white woman posing as a black woman... couldve been bullshit.

if the lady wants to be with this white guy, shes gonna have to put up with the bullshit that comes with "the package", im sure he has to put up with similar shit... two sides to every story. Instead of calling to a radio show, hes probably talking it out WITH HIS MALE FRIENDS. In situations where she feels like shes being attacked because of a racial joke, she needs to man the fuck up and spin the situation around to her favor and have some entertaining, light hearted come backs.

Like i said, chances are, the guy has to put up with bullshit too, hes just not crying about it on the radio, lol

Well officially I guess you could call it talk radio, because people are talking on the radio. But it's read old school just like network news. They don't take callers, and if they have an opinion or slant on stories it's imperceptible to me. Particularly with American politics - they report that shit from the perspective of a country far away, the clearest view of the forest is often from a distance... Every media outlet has some sort of slant, I just seek out those with the lowest level possible. The opposite of Rush-fucking-Limbaug.

Well I listen to a ton of talk radio and Rush isn't one of them. I like Dr. Laura but alas she isn't on here anymore. She cut through the bullshit and that why I like her. She tells people what they don't want to hear because in today's society, the younger generation has been and is being coddled too much.
