So when I bought my acadia with AWD last november, the tires on it were meh. Just over 50% tread left, and constantly refilling the suckers. Winter is coming. I need new tires. Phoning around all last week and this week. Of course I happen to have a model with 19" rims, and i'm too cheap right now to want to buy new rims AND tires, so I was trying to get a good price. LOTS of retails say they have some sort of 19" winter tire, but all on back order...2 to 3 weeks...we're supposed to have snow by the end of THIS week. SO...the one retailer that DOES have a set of winter tires, in stock, and can install them today...$1700 after taxes. FML. Oh well..it's gotta be done, it's gotta be done. Just SUCKS. And then I have to buy all seasons in the summer AND rims...definitely shopping around then...
How much are the places that are on backorder? I've never had snow tires, always did fine with my 4Runner in 4x4 when needed, and then when I got rid of that, in my Subaru with AWD. I don't think you are going to die without snow tires for a week or two
$1600 and $1400. So minor savings. The reason I'm pushing this now as opposed to waiting 2-4 weeks is because the tires that I have right now are crap. I have a couple of tires that leak when temps drop like they are now. And they are noticeably brutal. I'm sure these are the original tires and the vehicle has 140k on it right now. As much as I would like to push it and save a few bucks, I'd rather just get it done and out of the way.
Well...they made winter tires mandatory in Quebec. Yeah...we get an unbelievable amount of snow here in SK. With all the snowblowing I did last year, the piles on my lawn were taller than me!! And I'm 6'3"! Plus, I had a couple of close calls last year that I was thankful for AWD, so I figure with the winter tires, there won't be any close calls.
