There have been quite of few instances of people coming to Obama's speeches (not inside the building) who were armed, some with hand guns and some with auto machine guns (at least that's what it looked like) and shot guns. Obviously in the state he was in it was their right to carry such arms in public but what's your take on such a move, what's the possible motive in doing so?
i just saw these articles too... some what disturbing, but hell, it is their right to carry guns... one of the guys said some thing to the effect of, "If you don't use your rights, you'll lose your rights."
I'd be interested in seeing what some of the guns were if anyone knows of any pics. But if they indeed have fully automatic weapons out there, that's a bit ridiculous. Otherwise I'm all for public carry.
Until someone does something really stupid anyways, and it get's blown out of proportion and ruined for everyone. It just feels to me like it's going to do more harm than good (if it does any good at all).
Maybe they're trying to tell Obama they follow him as long as he knows where they stand on the gun laws? I dunno... more info needed.
i dont know anywhere that allows open carry of full auto its stupid to advertise like that. i understand that its a right to bear arms, but its not something i am going to flaunt. i keep a loaded pistol by my bed and carry in the car for long trips, but I am not going to walk around with a gun out for all to see. fucking hippy protesters edit: as far as the message, who gives a shit. that is just asking for trouble to carry a gun to a speech given by the fucking president.
Here you go: Man carrying assault weapon attends Obama protest - Yahoo! News See the video to the left of the article.
I've said it a million times that I support gun ownership, own guns myself, believe in the right to carry a gun, and hell, I"m going shooting tomorrow, but these people are just being idiots.
You can't tell simply by looking. Every automatic weapon has a semi-automatic counterpart. Quit being alarmists.
^ Yeah I'm sure many if not all of the gun toters got hit up by the enforcement agencies at some point before the meeting anyway.
I'm sorry my knowledge of guns isn't up to your liking, I wasn't being alarmist, I was simply stating opinion. My interest isn't in the type of guns they were carrying or even the fact that they were carrying guns, my interest in this topic is WHY were they carrying guns?
Humm, even John Stewart said they were automatic weapons tonight. Looks like he made the mistake too.
I wonder what militia this gentleman is a member of? YouTube - Black man with "machine gun" protests Obama Chris tries to get this guy to crack but fails. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYUmCj4yud4
That was my point. Everyone throws around the term all willy nilly. I've never heard of any instances of that being legal in any state. Even if it was, I can't imagine the hoops you'd have to jump through to be able to. It sounds to me like some dude showed up with an AR-15 and everyone started crying foul. But, I also feel the only reason to show up with something like that is purely to stir the shit.
Obama was stirring shit (trying to gain a following) just by showing up there. This guy is a citizen aswell not to mention a local. He's backed by rights the constitution gives him. Why is this a big deal? When the forefathers met, do you not think there was armed civilians around? Of course there was. Look at Lincoln's assassination. The only reason this is such a big issue is most city folk are not exposed to guns other than in violence (wheter by the police, military or thugs)... and this is the string the media is tugging on... It's not a big deal.
Technically it is an 'Automatic' weapon, even if it is the Semi-Automatic variety. The media shouldn't have even covered this, it's stupid. They should totally start covering other completely legal things, like driving through a green light, crossing the street at a crosswalk, buying food with cash or a million other perfectly legal things! That would be cool huh?
cool. if i was into guns and public carry, i'd join in the fun too. liek dude said.. use your rights or lose em. best quote of the week.
