My kid flushed the toilet and promises it was "only pooooooop" but for some reason there's a huge puddle coming from under the sink and the sink wasn't turned on. It was dripping from the cold water hose.....the sink is draining just fine tooo HAAALLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!
Turn off the water to both the sink and the toilet until wiskas sees this! They'll both look something like this . . . Wait-- the sink already wasn't turned on? Oh, you mean the faucet wasn't used?
First thing to do in troubleshooting is determine exactly where the water is coming from. You said the sink supply line? best case scenario: It's either the hose itself, where the hose meats the valve , where the hose meets the faucet(a PITA to get to), or that nut on the valve right behind the handle that shuts it off. worst case scenario: the faucet has an internal leak, or the supply pipe has a leak. One thing to check: has the diffuser been removed from the faucet? You know, that thing that screws on where the water exits the faucet with the screen in it? Most newer faucets will spray water really bad and it will go down inside the faucet body and make a huge puddle in the cabinet/on the floor.
I hate those sink supply valves. Half the time, when you try to use them to turn off the water, they're either frozen solid, or they start spraying water from the valve stem. I hate them. Plumbing is the Devil's Utility...
Welcome to my life Goofus. I got to where I won't even mess with the things. if changing the supply hose or a simple tightening of the nut behind the handle isn't sufficient, i tell the client he needs to get a plumber. Same with shutting off the street meter. If it won't turn really easily....call the freakin plumber. I cranked on one once at 4:30PM and the danged thing broke. Water was gushing 20' in the air. the city charged me $840 to change the meter out after hours.
landlord came in and replaced the whole line......I'm not sure that was necessary. I think I fixed it by turning that knob in the picture JZL posted a liiiìttle tighter. Stopped leaking. But now my walls are probably fucked behind the sink where I can't get to because
No landlord was right, turning knob only reduced pressure to a failing line/seal. Also who the hell takes 2 days to repair a leak?
Landlord brought the right tool for the job. His wallet. A leaky faucet can cause $$$$ in cabinet, flooring and subfloor damage.

That's what's down at the pool. Well, actually, those aren't exactly the same but close. A quarter-turn re-directs the flow of the water from the pump, either to drainage for vacuuming, or to the filters for normal operation. The shut-off is probably one of those but it's a straight handle (parallel = open, perpendicular = closed) FWIW, when a PVC pipe breaks the pool d00d has been replacing those with some sort of reinforced hose because the pump house is unheated in the winter.
