I can't say it was a great year, and I can't say it was a bad year. It was a goldilox year. No complaints, no regrets. I was in the sack by 8:30 last night and woke up to the sounds of war at midnight. The whole valley was shooting fireworks and weapons. I get to finish up a job today, so it's just another day. I hope this new year brings you and everyone on here what they need.
It was a great year financially. Personally I broke it off with my girl of 3 years who I thought I would finally settle down with. No dice...... Hey is that my beer?
Sorry to hear it didn't work out after a three year investment. It's always tough. When one door closes, another door opens. Hang tough Lurker.
I'm still in Utah. I'm doing well here financially. Making friends of my own. At first it was weird because I went from knowing 20+ people to absolutely nobody. That was tough. I was not about to turn tail back to Cali though. Tough times build character and bring out sides of yourself you never knew you had. Besides, as much as I love (LOVE) Cali, it seems to be getting worse and worse there. I figure I'll keep going here for a few more years and maybe move next door to Wiskas... or the Wa/Or area. I dunno. My kid is all grown up. Maybe I'll go on a walkabout.
Portland/Vancouver is booming! Eugene and Corvallis are mellow-er. People that get tired of the rat race up north or down south, move here. It's a good place to retire.
This was (is?) my folks plan, to retire on the OR coast. Then again, the met when my mom was teaching in Brookings.
Brookings is awesome. It's not like any other place on the Oregon Coast. There's a weather phenomena that makes it the warmest city on the whole coast and sometimes the warmest city in Oregon. There's lots of great scuba diving when the visibility is decent. Montana is pretty decent. My sister just moved from Nevada to Big Timber. She gets to walk her dog in -19f to -30f weather now.
Whatcha all doing for work these days? I've been at a liquor store on the CT shoreline since Oct '13 and I'm still having a blast! Excellent bosses, great coworker, salesmen, and customers. It seems like the perfect, recession-proof industry with lots of room for growth. I'm not sure what my next step is, but we'll get there soon enough. I do my homework on our products and get recognized for my efforts. Also, I get to sample all sorts of goodies during business hours. Yeahh!
After adapting my skills to something other than building houses, I've pretty much recession proofed my gig. I can still build homes, but there's shit tons more work in rental unit repairs and home remodels right now. I work for the biggest slave driver....did I mention that I'm self employed. This will take me to retirement or the end of my story....whichever comes first. I found that there's two more rules to life. the first two: 1) don't sweat the small shit 2) it's all small shit and the two others are: 3) want my needs rather than need my wants 4) get ahead by needing less It works well for me. Y'all do whatever floats yer boat..
Happy belated new year! The new year will probably test my strength and courage. Things haven't been so swell with the baby daddy. Go figure! Being with someone for 6 months and then having a baby doesn't exactly help a relationship grow stronger. Not in this case, anyway. I've been working on upgrading some high school courses so I can finally go to school for carpentry! Looking forward to finally beginning this but a bit nervous for how busy I'm going to be. I don't want to miss out on my girls because I'm too busy, but I need to do this for myself Excited for the challenges I'll be facing this year!
Having kids is the ultimate stress-test on any relationship. You go girl! Always strive to be independent, teach kids to be that way too. Nobody will take care of their needs the way they can themselves. There's no better feeling than to be able to say "I did it all by myself".
I'm a Master Automotive Tech at an indie shop here in SLC. Not as glamourous as life was in my 20's but I'm actually doing well.
You want your hoverboard? I've got your hoverboard (sort of), right here! I know it's February already, but happy new year anyway!
