I get it wiskas, I also get that most people think they are good at multi-tasking but we aren't. Even if we take a good 360 degree look around we will still miss something important. Our attention span is getting shorter and shorter every day. We as a species have multiple issues on many fronts and we can't possibly address all of them in a timely manner. I wish we could but that has never happened in human history.

Um, this thread is about Ferguson, after all. I understand the point, too. I have a saying, "If you keep your eye on the ball, you'll miss the runner breaking for second."

But we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. If we don't focus on the right thing, it's because we're malleable sheeple, and if we do focus on something, then there's a world-wide conspiracy to distract us from some other important issue. Nor do I buy into the gloom and doom pessimism. We're far better off on racial issues than we used to be, and technology as much as anything else, is helping. This goes all the way back to Selma and televised pictures of abuse that were undeniable, though the Rodney King video, up to today, where nearly anything can be videoed and uploaded.

A year ago I could only imagine what it would be like to be a black person hassled by the police. Now I've seen it. I'm not talking about A Clockwork Orange-esque police ultraviolence, I'm talking about being hassled by cops just for being black and walking down a street, being forced for no real reason at all to explain yourself, and just hoping that the cop isn't a flaming asshole who's having a bad day because his wife didn't blow him the night before.

    ............police persecution?
Oh it's felt by many people, not just blacks.
I know exactly what it feels like.Try being a 16 year old YIP (youth international party) member growing up in a small redneck farm town.
The cops back then were exactly the same as they are towards blacks today. That was back in 1973. There have been asshole cops as long as there have been cops.
There are mostly good cops that do a lot of positive things for communities though. A few bad ones and all of them get a bad rep.I'm coming from a place where there is no police protection.
There are maybe 4 county mounties that work 3-4 days a week and the county is huge. We have to police ourselves. It works, but the possibility of vigilantism and mistakes
    is probably a lot greater.
What I foresee happening is that police agencies will just curtail responses to calls in troubled areas. Then what happens? (Chicago anyone?)

This issue has all the makings of a conundrum wrapped in an enigma shrouded in mystery.

I wonder just how much press time this event will get: http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime...e-simply-assassinated-bratton-says/ar-BBh3AHN

If anything will make all things worse between the police and the public, this will. Just think how many hair triggers there will be now. This was a counterproductive undertaking. Anyone is an idiot if they bring a knife to a gunfight or declare war on a foe so extremely better armed and trained.

Another dumb ass with mental issues blaming others for their personal short comings. He shot his girlfriend first but I don't know if she survived the shooting. He shoots his girlfriend, two police officers minding their own business then shots himself. Idiot

It infuriates me that the clunkheads are blaming de Blasio and Holder:

The ill will continued Saturday as the Sergeants Benevolent Assn. tweeted: "The blood of 2 executed police officers is on the hands of Mayor de Blasio. May God bless their families and may they rest in peace."

Republican George Pataki, a former New York governor, tweeted, "Sickened by these barbaric acts, which sadly are a predictable outcome of divisive anti-cop rhetoric of #ericholder & #mayordeblasio. #NYPD."

The mayor is a politician. Now he is a politician that put getting votes ahead of the backing of the people who are protecting him from nut jobs.
What would the outcome be if politics were outlawed?
I foresee a drawdown of police activity in high crime areas. Then what? Chicago?

    imho:
Question: "which comes first? The chicken or the egg?"
Answer: "it doesn't matter....it's all foul"
One of two things are going to happen. Either the police will simply stop patrolling high risk areas out of a sense of self preservation ( http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/police-on-high-alert-fear-more-attacks/ar-BBh5GA2 ), or they will retaliate.
I see both things happening. Geeze, it's the 60's all over again. I tend to believe that both sides of the equation are culpable to one degree or another.
Nobody seems to want to stand down. There's the heavy handed cop culture and there's the gangster romanticizing culture. All innocent people (95%) are in the middle.
Somewhere along the line, some cops took off in a detrimental direction as well as the people on the other end did. The results just may be the end of police protection in
high crime areas. Will that appease anyone? Are the high crime areas the fault of the police? Or are they caught in the middle too? Granted, some cops handle the stress in a horrible,
often criminal way. But did they force or coerce anyone into criminal behavior? The cops aren't the problem, elements of society that seek to divide and conquer for monetary gain and power
are the causes. The cops are just pawns as much as the victims of police behavior are.

This always happens pressure builds to a breaking point, explodes then settles down before building up again. Rinse and repeat.

What? It's also his job to keep the cops in line, you know, when they murder people.

What about when the people murder the cops? Whose job is it to keep those people in line?
It's not like the cops just walk up to a black dudes eating lunch and blow them away.
I get that there's a prejudice problem in big cities. Now let's look at why there's a lack of the same in
areas that are small towns. Sure there is the odd bigot, but it's an exception and not the rule. (at least around here)
Here, the cops concentrate patrols on poor white neighborhoods and rarely go into areas with concentrations of
blacks or Hispanics. Why? because they (poor white people) are the trouble makers here. Murders, drugs, domestic and/or sex abuse, violence.
The cops aren't picking on anyone but they sure are extra vigilant in any area that has chronic lawlessness. 30 miles away in Medford, there is
the beginnings of a shift towards extra patrols in the Hispanic areas because of activity by documented gangs. Are the cops picking on the
gang bangers from the Southland? No, they are just responding to the need. I'm sure the gangs are thinking they are being targeted.
There has to be a reason that blacks are being profiled and I'm not convinced that bigotry is the only reason. If the communities policed themselves,
the cops would have no reason to be there. "Whitey is keepin the black man down" you say? Tell that to all the people who got passed that excuse and got
out of those situations into a better life. A shit ton of white folk use the same excuse (the man) and get the same results as any race does when they use it.
Shit, I even fell into that trap in 2007 and it took 1 1/2 years to snap out of it. It's easy to blame someone or something else, but it won't improve anyone's situation at all.

Now that we've taken the bait I'll go back to what this is all about anti-police brutality which has become anti-police which is a different thing altogether. Police brutality is a problem in this country and every race has experienced it. When police officers brutalizes individuals and get away with it that is a problem no matter who you are. Every time we try to address police brutality the police always deflect the criticism and turn it into an anti police problem. No one wants to be brutalized by the police but we've made it ok for the police to do brutalize us in this country. Just let them do their job and you need to STFU. So what if you get your ass tazed and beat up and you didn't resist STFU and take it. So what if you are unarmed and not threatening anyone and get your ass kicked or killed by the police STFU and take it.

I am not anti police, I'm anti police brutality which is what we should be talking about. New York isn't the center of the universe. They have a lot of BS going on that we don't know about so fuck their political BS.

    http://thefreethoughtproject.com/po...ops-buffalo-officer-fired-stopping-brutality/

Ok maybe a little New York BS we all think we know about.

There's no doubt that a lot of guys with a badge should not be in the profession.
It's a complex problem IMHO. For starters, not every personality can make it as a cop. Unfortunately a lot of the same people that are bullies in grade and high school
become cops. Weed those out at the police academe and see if anything changes. Add police recruiters targeting combat vets for their recruitment efforts and we have a
problem. In areas like the one I live in, there are still bully cops. Instead of strong arming blacks, they seek other people as the object of their aggressions.

I'm not going to say that I can relate to what it's like to live in the urban areas that see the problems. I'm also, not going to pretend that I know what it's like to report
for work everyday, put on a badge and be assigned duty in a high crime area. All I can say is that if people keep doing what they're doing, that they'll keep getting what they're getting.
What happens in NYC, affects the way cops react all over the country. The two hives have been stirred up and everyone is going to get stung as a result. This exact same game
has been played out forever. The same results happen every time. Nobody wants to see that so we keep doing the same thing, and expect different results. That's insanity.

If we can get past our anger about the problem and start concentrating on the solution to the problem, the problem would go away. I don't see that happening. It seems to be more fun to stir up the hive and keep everyone pissed off.

People should be pissed off about this. People should be pissed when the police try to deflect anti-police-brutality sentiment as anti-police.

None other than Vincent Bugliosi, the Charles Manson Helter-Skelter prosecutor, has opined that this shit is never going to stop unless and until prosecutors grow some balls and start charging cops who engage in brutality.

Unfortunately, just as in politics, those that can do the job, do not want to do the job in a lot of cases.
It seems that our population doesn't want to be unified.
I'd have thought that bigotry would have devolved by now.
