Ahhhhh yeah! So yesterday I was watching Game of Thrones and I had a beer on my desk. My cat went batshit crazy, bumped the can, which splashed all over the place, including through the top of my 900 case. Verdict: Corsair 520w PSU: fried Mobo: fried Vidcard: ???, I'll get parts tomorrow Core i7: ??? Fuckin cat..... at least I have my media center!!
Sorry dude that really sucks. I have to say, I love being pet free when I hear stories like this. I actually just read this today on a friends facebook: "I just wanna thank the skunk that sprayed my dog at 3:30am. I really enjoy being woken up by wife freaking out and having to bath him half awake. Oh at that wonderful stench u left us to sleep with was wonderful too. FML!!!"
That's terrible man, but its one of the prices we pay to be pet owners. 2 years ago my beagle decided to open a jar of black shoe polish all the way up and down on the carpeted staircase. yay for new carpet!
That sucks. I'm such a threat-avoidance type of person that I always sets my desk and AV equipment up in such a way that they'd survive any sort of spill or splash. That and my cat is too fucking fat to get up on my desk.
I acquired a kitteh recently (rescue) and she has yet to do anything like that... but I don't have beverages or anything near my computers... except this crappy old laptop...but I have no critical files in it...just surf da web...
So we got a cat a few weeks ago and she's sweet, if a bit skittish. However, last week she went into heat, much to our surprise since the rescue group we got her from supposedly spayed her! (Hooray yowling all night from a previously silent cat!) Anyways, seems she was spayed but they missed some of her ovaries or some shit, so they agreed to do an exploratory surgery on the cat. Girlfriend takes the cat down to the Petsmart that the rescue group is based out of and puts the cat up for the night before. The rescue lady calls up my girlfriend and proceeds to tell her how invasive the surgery is (supposedly an opening from top to bottom) and how the cat will need about 6 months to recover. Girlfriend freaks out about it and decides not to have the surgery done (to be fair I said it was her call as it's in her name and I didn't want to make the decision). I made sure they would agree to do it in the future if the cat continues going into heat, they're claiming she may go into it a couple more times then be fine (not sure I believe it but whatever). So forward to yesterday when the girlfriend brings the cat home and she is overly cuddly, super sweet again. The girlfriend goes into the other room to grab something and comes back to discover the cat's back legs hanging from the flue (note she's a tabby with white paws). Guess how much fun I had washing a cat after being up since 5 in the morning and working an 8 hour shift! But she's a cool cat, despite the dumb poses:
yeah, no hard feelings towards the cat, it's not its fault/intentional! Pets can be money sinks sometimes, but I completly agree with DJ. It's our responsibility!
Update: RAM: fried Vidcard: fried! Oh well.. time for a new computar!!!! I think my core i7 is still okay though I hope so. Waiting for the replacement parts now!
We've got 5 babies wandering around our property right now, humanized just enough to be playful, but still a little skittish. They certainly go feral when we break out the flea spray. I miss my goggies though
I'm safe! There is no way for spilled drinks to get to my computer case, and my designated beverage area is a place of inconvenience for my cat. Actually, I should rearrange things so I can blame the cat for needing to upgrade my system!
My best friend has a store, so I got all the help I needed. Total fee: 625$ Mobo, CPU, RAM and PSU, all RMAed and swapped. Everything is ready today. I replaced my vidcard (8800 GT) for a GTX 570. I also swapped my 4 GB RAM with a 8GB and added another 8 GB. Finally, I bought a corsair case. That fuckin Antec 900 needed to die. The culprit... meet Herman!
