...but no one commented on the Lakers getting swept and their ass handed to them? I can't stand the Lakers so this was of course, glorious for me to watch. Especially, their classlessness towards the end of game 4 when there was obviously no hope of them staying in the game at all. Two flagrant fouls within moments of each other resulting in ejections. Stay classy, Lakers.

This is a picture from the regular season, but it's pretty much what the Lakers looked like in the entire post-season against the Mavericks. They got worked:

Not a big fan of the mavs, but I fucking love seeing the lakers get rolled on. Stay classy, LA. Suprised there weren't riots last night.

I've given myself a "to do" this year: start watching at least one sport on a regular basis. I quit watching NFL football around 10 years ago, and never regularly watched basketball or baseball. Just for the social aspect alone I'm going to start watching at least one sport. Whatcha think, NFL? I go on business trips or converse with colleagues and when I tell them I don't watch any sports they look at me like I have three heads. I would probably get better looks if I told them I liked to fuck babies.

Don't bullshit yourself, once you fall out of love with sports there's no going back. My debit card has the Cowboys on it and I feel like a schmuck every time I pull it out and feign interest.

I wish I could have seen this game! The lakers went out like bitches! Bynums foul was the most rediciluous foul I have ever seen, way to go after the smallest guy on the court dick!

It was Phil Jacksons last game too! I bet he was hella disappointed too.

Yeah, this series was epic indeed. The Cavs are really bringing it in the playoffs. All those guys can shoot like the best of them (ridiculous amount of 3 pointers).

Can't wait to watch my Heat play tonight! DOWN WITH BOSTON!

On that note, please watch this informative video:

Yeah I've got to admit MSP I'd be like one of your colleagues. I find it strange when people say they don't like playing sport or at least watching. Thinking about it it's only people on forums where I've heard anybody say they don't like sport, never met any guy in real life who hasn't liked sports.

When I'm off site with any customers, the first thing I do is look around for a clue to who they support then talk about it.
My weekend involved going to Watch Aston Villa vs Wigan, Playing Golf, then some Snooker.

I always tell folks that to me watching sports is like watching two strange dogs fight over a bone. I don't give a fuck about either dog, or the bone. :)

MMA is hot right now and UFC isn't the only game in town. There are the Sengoku and DREAM promotions out of Japan, MFC up in Canada, plus smaller, local promoters that have a good stable of fighters, and they all air on HDNet. It's exciting to watch, the underdog comes out on top more so than other sports, and it has a huge following so you won't have a hard time finding people to chat with about it.

EDIT: I DO watch MMA. thats something i DO watch, but im not hardcore enough to remember names and who won last week. I'll watch it sparingly, if im in the rare mood, and i'll enjoy it.

LMAO, i hold international soccer much higher than american sports. but thats about it. I would love to get into it but i got other priorities in life to keep up with.
i cant keep up with who shot john and who threw the ball in the hoop. its just meaningless to me.

the grizzlies are apparently doing good, im pretty sure they'll knock OKC out. dunno anymore than that. i love to see all the band wagoners come out of the wood work too, its pathetic.

like msp. everyone always asks me "do you watch sports?" or "did you watch the game?". I usually say "nah, i missed it" just to end the convo swift and politely.. other times "you know, i used to play sports but i dont keep up with it these days"
being polite, i still get a harsh reaction like something is wrong with me, or im a lesser man because i dont partake in watching sports.
im an athletic fit looking guy so i tend to get alot of sports fans gravitate to me. :|

BINGO! I learned early on that if I were to say heretical words like "I don't watch sports..." at a bar that basically the conversations would stop. It was a common enough phenomenon that I think it warrants study. Are the sports fans just only comfortable talking about their area of interest? Did they view me with suspicion because I was different?

ive observed and found that more people seem to get a rise out of you being on the opposing team so they can talk shit to you and tell you how better "their team is" compared to yours..
its just another separator, that, when in the wrong hands really hurts everyone.

theres no argument or disagreement when you meet someone thats rooting for your same team. just a light friendly conversation...
but when you get two people who oppose one another because of different team support, thats when the fists fly. especially in a bar where testosterone and alcohol make you "DA MAN"

just take for example sports riots. is that really necessary? the general media and everyone seem to now embrace it like its SUPPOSED to happen now. and if it did, and people get hurt, everyones like "okay well thats that!"

which brings me back to my theory that.. people really dont care about sports for the entertainment.. its all about the bragging rights AFTERWARDS to friends and family and opposing people.
a superiority complex, if you will.

Personally I think that professional sports loyalties are completely retarded. I mean, at least in high school and college the teams are comprised of your peers. At least for four years, the people living around you, your neighbors. But pro sports? Those fuckers are from all over the world. So I should root for one team of strangers over another? And the incessant arguing and fighting that Torx mentioned, what's the fucking point? The best team is pretty obvious, isn't it? It's the one that wins! So what is there to argue about? And why hate the other teams, or a particular team, even if they beat you? It's a fair contest, and if you don't think it's a fair contest hate the judges. I just don't get it, it's like religious furor, or Mac versus Windows, etc.

Maybe it's different there, you have "franchises" and thus those "franchises" can if they want just move, in my opinion it feels like they don't belong to the community. Here the team belongs to that area and the fans, if someone does really well for themselves money wise in that area then they may invest or just buy the team.

Just to give you an example, Wigan the team I support were bought by a local called Dave Whelan in 1995 when the team was in Division 3 (4th league down from the top one). In 2005 they made it to the top league (Premier league).

The only team that has ever left there area was Wimbledon I think, they lost every single fan had to rename themselves they lost there badge/crest. A new team was formed in Wimbledon run by the fans called AFC Wimbledon and they are doing OK.

thats why i envy european sports. you guys are hardcore and your teams dont jump up and leave when the city is broke, or the players arent happy with their paychecks, or the team ends up sucking or losing the finals.
its really broken and dumb over here.

your teams are broken up into different parts of the community like you say and it keeps people loyal to their teams, keeps the fanbase in an order.

This. My ex-wife was a fanatical Nascar Sprint Cup fan. She idolized Jimmy Johnson. She had no interest in the technical aspect of the sport, the strategies used, the history of the sport, or anything regarding the cars. She just cared about the commercialization and crazy fans. She didn't even care about anything else. She understood the points system and how racers won/lost.

I love the technical side of any sort of mechanized racing. I love watching the teams tune and build their cars. I love watching the racing strategies. I don't even care about who wins/loses.

Thank fucking Jah the Lakers lost. I'm so fucking pissed about hearing how great they are and how they're this and that. I swear to Jah I can't even watch ESPN anymore (national radio isn't any better). The airtime given to the Cowboys, Yankees and Lakers makes me want to puke. I don't have a favorite NBA team but hell the NBA and NHL playoffs are awesome.

Torx - how the hell do you hold international soccer to a higher standard, in your own words, but you don't get riots? They are the fans who riot the most and have as much, if not more violence at their games.
