I have the opportunity to join the african command mission to djibouti sometime in late 2010 early 2011. They will be training local governments and countries on counter terrorism and other stuff that serves US interests. Maybe even some humanitarian stuff. I am quasi addicted to living in different countries every few years, and i havent been to africa proper to live (visited a few times). I have no attachments back home since megabitch rolled me in Iraq so i'm good on that account. So the question is, should i take this mobilization? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djibouti
Sounds pretty interesting, but the close proximity to Somalia and Sudan would make me a little nervous. Djibouti seems like a pretty good staging area for operations in both places.
Would you still be working for the military or a private contractor? Either the way I say go for it because it will look impressive on your resume if you want to work for TEG or Dyncorp or whomever. Big money my friend.
I said "no". Too unpredictable/dangerous over in those places. A 'Ranger' with his head attatched, is the best kind of Ranger. I'd kinda like to see you reach the end of your career still alive.
yes indeed. you're traveling to a new place with the opportunity to do some humanitarian work, on top of that you're being deployed to somewhere that isn't a warzone, which is more than most military can say at this time.
