Hello, I'm an electrical engineering student / computer enthusiast that's fascinated with electronics. I'm looking for components to test, examine, and just play around with (or hang on the wall, lol).

I'm particularly interested in a damaged/fried ATI x850, x800, Radeon 9800, or a nVidia 6800 (or a 7800 - ouch!) video card. I'd like the card to be more or less in good physical condition (i.e. not broken in half, or melted). Of course I expect the warrenty to be void. Maybe you were trying to OC it or the hsf got jammed with dust or something and it just doesn't work anymore.

If you have one of those video cards that you couldn't RMA and is about to be thrown out or is sitting in a box collecting dust and you wouldn't mind getting at least a few bucks for it, send me an email at zertam@hotmail.com.

I've been keeping an eye out on eBay, but nothing is coming up.

Thanks

can't you buy one of those lots with like 50 broken combuters for cheap? my friend was telling me how his older brother does that and gets all the working parts and makes like 5 good computers and then sells them to make $$$ you could do that, then you will still have alot of damaged parts and some cash too.

You'd be much better off just buying some components. Pick up a pack of resistors (~$12 for 500 at Radioshack), some capacitors, a few op-amps, a couple diodes, maybe set you back $30-40 total. The components you'll find on an actual product will likely be very small and hard to work with. You won't be able to just pick them off the board and connect them to each other. Get a good breadboard, too (maybe $20-30, I haven't bought one myself since I got a freebie, so this is more a guess). You can just plug in a circuit, mess with it, test it, and take it apart and re-use the components.

esun, I think he wants to see if he can figure out why the card is broken and then fix it, rather than scavenge components from it.

Doesn't sound that way to me.

I doubt I could actually fix it. I'd bet more than often that the GPU or memory chips are fried and there's really no way to get replacements for those parts. But if I could fix it, that'd be great :P.

I'm just impressed with these high-end circuits and like to try and understand how they are designed and work -- and if I can determine what's wrong with the card I think it would be a good exercise.
