THREE times, I've completely deleted and reinstalled my forums on my website. I've put it in different locations but like 1 minute after I install it, somehow all these spammers can bypass my registration and then post their spam. seriously, how is that possible?! just fucking pisses me off. anywho, more of a rant. the only thing i haven't done is switch forum software and I really don't want to do that because the software I use has some features that I haven't found in other software...

EDIT: well I am trying something new. when these spammers somehow bypass my registration, they are made the default member. so I changed the default member to have NO rights whatsoever. so the only way someone can even SEE the forums is if I promote them. It's a pain in the ass and people can't immediately start posting but I see no other way. Hopefully it will work.

on another note, if any of you are familiar with forum software, the big feature I want is a news manager type of thing where you can set a forum to be a "news" forum or whatnot and then that info gets exported to a text file and then you can call it via ssi or whatever on another page. see my forums at forums.geekpoint.com. i have the news & announcements forum set to do that now and it outputs it to Geekpoint | IT Begins.... I have never found another forum software that can do it easily like ikonboard. if you have suggestion, please tell me! and I don't want to pay for the forum software either. I won't be having that many users.

probably a good option would be to add a catchpa system. see if the board software supports it. Basically its a random number genartor that generates a picture with letters and numbers in it like 12FPE or 99EDASAD the user has to then type in the letters/numbers they see. it helps a bit with bot registration.

edit: sorry it's captchas

ya i'll look for a hack for that. what's odd though is that in the ikonboard admin settings, there is a check box to do that same thing (it's not captcha but same idea) but it doesn't seem to show up when I test it like I'm a new user registering. does it show up for you all?
