| Member | My laptop has a legitimate copy of xp pro, while my desktop has a copy of xp corp (not legit obviously.) Since microsoft has decided to implement all this genuine advantage crap, I was wondering if I could use the windows cd key on my laptop for the copy on my desktop as well....i was assuming i could do this since xp corp doesnt require authentication, and windows has already been authenticated on my laptop.....would there be any problems doing this, or could this actually work? Thx in advance |

| Member | it might work, what brand is your laptop? what brand is your desktop or is it custom built? if they are the same brand usually it will work with out any activation problems, if they are different then you might have to call microsoft to activate it. if you have to call for activation dont sweat it, most of the time the computer will do it for you. You might have to talk to a person, but if you do just tell them you reinstalled it on your laptop and they will give you an activation code. |

| Tweak Minion | I don't think so. I tried w/2 desktops and xp home. Microsoft recognized it and would not allow the updates. I got a message to call MS tech support. |

| outside the box! | Give it a try and update us on the results. What's the worst that could happen? Besides the microsoft police showing up at your door and beating your head into a bloody pulp and sueing you and all of your offspring for the next mellenium. I don't do illegit stuff when it comes to software (normally). I've "barrowed" copies of shit, but end up buying legit if I like it and can actually use it. Alot of time and expense goes into software dev. and the software writers need to be paid for their work. So I don't mind paying the price. I am planning to migrate away from windows at this time. I'm not too thrilled with the marketing and products overall. Xandros is looking pretty good lately. I think this 'genuine advantage' crap is pushing me away faster than anything Microsoft has ever done to date. |

| Member | hans would you mind directing me to where i could find a way around this latest WGA crap they just released? the main reason i started this thread is because i was going to reformat my desktop and i just dont wanna have to deal with WGA banners plastered all over my screen, and a notification everytime i boot up windows.......i dont mind updating via "automatic updates", i just dont wanna have to deal with that damn notification...its annoying.... |

| the game belongs to me | google is your best friend or... this used to work back when i had a "not legit" version(dont know if it still works): Microsoft "Genuine Advantage" cracked July 28, 2005 Microsoft "Genuine Advantage" was cracked in just 24 hours. According to Boing Boing the crack simply requires adding some Javascript to your browser window. Source Boing Boing: Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter: javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all') It turns off the trigger for the key check. |
