| | Windows XP Install Question | permalink #1 |
| Junior Member | Ok I have built like 6 systems and have all installed windows XP with NO problems ever. I just built my 7th system and went to install windows XP and it wont install. I put the boot order to cd rom and put in the install disc and restarted the computer. It boots off the CD and asks to hit any button so I do so and then it comes up with a black screen and on the top it says system is checking hardware configuration...... Then after like 30 seconds the words disappear and the disc stops spinning and it does nothing. The keyboard still works but it is as if when It does the hardware configuration it is missing something. The only thing I can think of is my other 6 builds had a 3.5 inch floppy installed and this is my first build with NO 3.5 inch floppy. Do I have to have a floppy at least hooked up in order for windows XP professional to install properly? Otherwise what could I be missing? THanks for any and all help! Dana | |

| I Am The Black Wizards | Are you using a burned cd? If so, you may want to get a new burn of it, including slipstreamed SP2. Another possible cause is that you're using an unsupported ATA/SATA/RAID controller, in which case you need a floppy disk for it (when its says push F6 for additional drivers). Other than that, I couldn't tell you what to try. | |

| Junior Member | Yes I am using a burned CD, but I have used the same exact one on all my other builds and never had an issue. I have a 7200rpm IDE HDD 80 gig installed and the bios recognizes all the hardware. | |

| Junior Member | I dont get as far as even getting to the blue setup screen for the windows xp install. After it checks for hardware configuration it just stops spinning the cd. | |

| the Championship cometh.. | How old is the HDD, you may want to run the manufacturers diagnostics software, if the drive is dying, windows setup wont play (i've had this) | |
