Sure we all knew about the java workaround ages ago...

However, did you know you can actually disable WGA via Internet Explorer's very own 'Internet Options'? No I didn't believe it either. Yes it works, it essentially disables the page from running LegitCheckControl.dll

With IE open, do the following.
1: Tools > Internet Options
2: Select the 'Programs' tab.
3: Go to 'Manage Add-ons'
4: Scroll down to 'Windows Genuine Advantage', click over it, and disable.

Somewhat amusing...

call me stupid but what is LegitCheckControl?

There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
" Use the best: Linux for servers, Mac for graphics, Windows for Solitaire."

Sorry, I just assumed most would know what I was on about. As they say, assume nothing.

It is the process where-by Windows Update validates your install of Windows XP for legitimacy. Illegitimate serials are shutout of the update site. You can still however obtain critical updates through the automated updates (if turned on.) Or of course we 'all' have legal copies so WGA doesn't bother us at all

I've been using the AtiveX workaround since I found out it existed. It's a pain in the ass to copy and paste that script everytime you want to check for updates.
