i thought that was ingenious of them to have a betta background considering its the first beta.
does anyone know minimum/recommended requirements for this beta?

VMWare sees it as Vista and VMWare Tools installs without issue. It works just fine for me. I'm really enjoying the UI so far. It's much easier to navigate, for me at least.

I'm sure there may be another way to get to it but Vista/Server08 has the same firewall if you type wf.msc from the command prompt.

I stumbled across that little tidbit while reading about sbs 08

Hmm, I was just thinking about that. I was on Vista Ult. 64 for a while but dropped it due to performance issues.

Either way, the OS is very impressive and greatly improves on Vista. It runs very well in a VM environment too, so I imagine it'll run perfect as a regular bootable OS.

Ya I've heard this beta could easily be used as a main OS considering how polished and quick it is. I downloaded it but haven't installed it yet. I wanted to use Vista but with my "slow" specs, I didn't want to see the performance hit. But from what I read, Windows 7 is quite a bit faster than Vista and in some cases faster than XP. If that's the case, I may use Windows 7.

For you guys that have it installed, how much memory does it use idle? And what is the cpu usage idle?

I like it so far. It seems more like vista sp2 but w/o winfs I'm not going to complain.

even though i know you can switch back to the classic vista startbar, i still think they shouldve gone a different route with the windows 7 one.

me personally, i like alot of screen real estate and seeing a thick taskbar kinda irks me

Depends on how often you use it. I hate using Beta/RC releases for full time use but so far it's pretty stable.

Enable auto-hide taskbar.
