I might be getting Nintendo DS so I want to be able to play online, and I also need to get my moms pc on wireless which will be going down stairs.

Which Router is modifyable so I can extend the range? I remember seeing one here but I can't find it.

It was probably some variant of the Linksys WRT54G. You can do all sorts of things with it using 3rd-party firmware, including turning up the antenna power.

That's what I have, although I haven't tried any 3rd party firmware.

I've had very good results with Linksys WRT54Gs. I do about 10 network installations per month. Sometimes I'm really shocked at how well they work (like on the bottom floor of a two-story house, in the opposite corner of a wireless adapter).

In my house I use a Netgear RangeMax (MIMO, 7 antenna). It's done pretty damn good so far.
