Just wondering which is the better ram to have with Athlon 64 3500.
Is it better to have ram which is PC4000+ or PC3200.
I heard it was better to have the slower one with an AMD proccessor?
Is this true?

At the moment im going to get a set of ballistix 512MB PC3200s, just wondering if this is the right one to go for as I can afford the faster ones.

Make sure your motherboard supports it.

If you buy the 3200 (DDR400) make sure you get a lower latency one. 2-2-2-5-1T is a extremly good timing for any ram, but the problem is you can't get a 4000 ram that runs at those speeds stock, it doesn't mean that they can't do those speeds. Im looking at the corsair page and the best is see 4000+ is 2.5-4-4-8-1T at 4400.

The idea would to be to buy the fast ram so you have more room to overclock your CPU, and then drop the latency down. So for example you have a stick of DDR550 (PC4400) with a latency of 2.5-4-4-8 (drop the 1T because you can't really change that), now that stick has been tested to be safe up to front side buses of 550mhz with those latencies. So lets say you have that stick in running at oh, DDR500(PC4000), what you would do is drop the latency down to 2.5-3-3-6. Run memtest86+ for a few hours and if no errors show up drop the latency down to 2-3-3-6. Reapeat this untill errors start showing up in memtest86+, when that happens you change it back to the last stable speed. Now please note that im just using example numbers and you don't have to follow those numbers exactly.

Also a thing to keep in mind is the quality of the RAM that your are buying. Some companies sell you what ever they get, others test the parts that they get and the ones that preform better they call preformance RAM and sell specially for overclockers. Some good companies are Corsair XMS series (XMS being the premium line) i hear OCZ is good, theres a few others. But what im trying to say is read a few reviews on the ram that you are buying. Some good places to find reviews are HardOCP and Anandtech, if you don't know the site urls google it.

I need another beer.

I make myself laugh.

And make sure that the RAM you buy is compatible with your motherboard!
