HardOCP has published its second article comparing framerates of games running in Windows XP to Windows Vista. This round they've used an ATI X1950XTX 512MB video card. Last time the comparison used only NVIDIA chips which were criticized for running old drivers in the benchmarks. In this newer write-up they also re-tested NVIDIA-based cards using newer drivers.

The article pits the operating systems against each other in Battlefield 2142, Company of Heroes, Oblivion, Flight Simulator X, Prey, and others. There are also screenshot comparisons available showing visual quality differences.

The framerates were marginally higher in Windows XP, offering 10-35% differences or more with each type of card (NVIDIA chips especially favoring XP at this point in time). Most games were at the lower end of this spectrum with an extra 5 or so FPS tacked on with XP when the numbers typically hovered in the mid 30s to high 40s.
