I use AVG and it has been fantastic. I don't bother with spyware, I am very careful about my browsing habits and also scrutinize everything I install. Depending on the Vista you are using, I think Defender comes with it though.

My friend has Norton on Vista that came with his HP PC he just bought. I've been watching it since he bought it about 2 months ago and the piece of shit just keeps getting worse. But its not like he takes care of it anyways. Waste of money IMO. I hope Vista turns into Microsoft's demise... they deserve it.

I think the key phrase is "takes care of". I don't care what OS you are running.. If you use a computer from the perspective of using the bare minimum of what you need, and use the computer intelligently, you will not run into problems. If Vista is running slow, find out what feature that you are not using is hogging the resources and disable it.

I've never had any problems with any of the vista boxes I've encountered that weren't present on machines running XP or earlier.

I don't think the user/available technology gap will ever get filled with patience and understanding. It must be out of our human nature.

I'm using CA antivirus and "windows defender" for what it's worth. I run a free program called CleanUp! about once a week and found it cleans spyware as well. I haven't had any probs yet...
