So I just opened up tweak this morning a few minutes ago, NOTHING else open on my pc, and my IE window froze, then crashed, then tried to restart.

EZ Virus detected like 5 threats immediately, and my firewall program caught like 9 attempts for some weird apps I've never heard of trying to access the internet. (First try at uploading a pic)

Anyone else have any weirdness going on this morning? I'm doing a full virus scan now, just curious if anyone else had something like this happen.

Sorry, still a newb here. Should've gone in Tech??

Yea, yea, I know everyones an IE hater, I just figured since I've never had any problems with the site it might've been something with a new ad or something on the site.

Extremely unlikely, though ads can try and slip things through, and you're MUCH more vulnerable to this while using IE.

But to answer your Q, yea this should be in Tech. No biggie though, I'm sure someone will move it.

When I hit the main forum landing page just now, the IE block came up saying that a file wanted to be downloaded.. Pretty interesting.

I'm actually quite the fan of IE7. But that's irrelevant.

Format & reinstall. =p

The wife had the same thing happen to her this AM. I told her that's what she gets for going to "free gamez" sites.

AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista is a good free one, and if you want nothing but the absolute best, then accept no substitutes for Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir

AntiVir has shown in several studies to have the best heuristics for unknown viruses, one of the fastest scan times, and one of the top libraries of known viruses.

I have no idea if the problem was related or not, but I saw a pop-up window try to load from a new ad system I tried out a few weeks ago. I don't like pop-ups, so I removed all of the ads. I hope your computer is okay -- be sure to scan for stuff anyway, and definitely consider using a different browser.

AV-Comparatives

That's one of the comparison websites I look at every 6 months or so to see how different anti-viruses compare to each other. Panda anti-virus isn't on the list right now, but they've signed up for later this year so they'll be able to test it and compare it to the rest of the group.

the problem i have with most antiviruses that ive tried..

most of the time i want the antivirus OFF, and by off i mean no services running, no application running, nothing. then i turn it on when i wanna scan some files.. and thats it.

alot of the AV's, if you choose to "exit" from the program, they still got loads and loads of shit running in the background that take up resources.
kaspersky seemed to be the only one that had maybe one thing still running in the background when turned off or exited.

i might have to try avira, thet got good results this time around.
phantom, does it have alot of shit running in the background?

Anti-virus off = pants down. As long as the PC is connected to a high speed connection you're vulnerable. Unless it's OSX, Linux, or Vista anyway.
