lol who would have ever thought that I would be asking a question like this However, its complicated, here goes...

I have a toshiba satellite A10 REH notebook. I have checked numerous sources that say that the memory is expandable to only 1gb. It has two slots and will take 2100-2700 DDR SODIMM's. I have two 256 meg chips in it now giving it 512 megs.

Now heres the question. Buying 2 512's is more costly (alot) than buying 1 1gig stick. Do you think that putting in the 1gig module will work by itself, recognizing as one gig as long as I don't use the other slot in the notebook? The sources that I have checked (kingston, toshiba) both say that it can handle a gig, and they say 512 per slot. Do you think that the slots each are restricted to 512, or the bios is just restricting over 1 gig of memory totall?

any ideas?

Its the Intel 852GM chipset, only made for laptops. I guess thats the killer question, what is blocking the memory limitation? the Chipset or the Bios? Do you know how much the 852 can handle?

thx mushu for the speedy reply.
