OK, here's the scenerio - my XP box has been moved to the corner of my desk and used basically as a media server / digital TV. My digital cable box connects to it, and I'd just like to remove the mouse and keyboard and control the TV and other media programs from my Mac.

Here's the problem - when I connect from my Mac the Windows Remote Desktop does that Fast User Switching thing, sending that monitor back to the login screen causing what I'm trying to see to go away! Is there a way to stop it from doing that? I'm looking for it to behave more like Dameware or Netmeeting and leave the display alone.

Ive heard of ways to log in without taking over, but Im not exactly sure.

What functions do you use when you login, just to change channels? Hmm, I just cant remember how to do it.

I have a remote control for the channels, I just need to log in when I want to run iTunes or whatever. I've opted to just get a USB switch and be done with it:

Newegg.com - IOGEAR GUB201 USB 2.0 Peripherals Sharing Switch - Retail

RealVNC is your friend. It can run on pretty much any OS out there, and can use a Java client. It's secure just so long as you aren't opening the remote session over the internet.
