Got my desktop (xp) connected direct to the modem. The asus mobo I have has a wireless antenna thing, so I figured I'd make use of it by setting it to Access Point and then connecting to it with my laptop (vista) so it could get the shared internet connection without the cables.

Here's the problem: I create a new wireless connection on the desktop (pick an ssid, channel, password etc) and then connect to it with my laptop. It connects fine, and works... but when I shutdown the laptop, or restart it and it tries to reconnect upon restarting it cannot. I get the 'limited or no connectivity'... If I go back to the desktop I can see it has a connection established but for whatever reason the connection isn't functional. If I again create a brand new wireless connection(ssid etc) and connect to it with the laptop it works again. So basically it always works the first time and never again after that. I don't believe it's the laptop itself because when I go use my friends wireless at his appartment it auto connects every time no problems. It's really a pain to have to create a new connection every time I want to use internet on my laptop at home. Any thoughts on what the problem might be? I've got no firewalls or anything of the sort.

Almost sounds like our cheap-ass linksys router. One day, can connect. Shutdown the notebooks, come back the next day, can't connect. Have to reboot the router. Pretty much everyday.

Appreciate the reply. I'll continue to experiment with it, and see what I can find. I'll let you know if any solution comes up. Maybe it is just a cheap ass hardware problem and there is no solution.

Well I seem to have stumbled across the solution. There must have been some conflict between the asus Wifi software and windows where it didn't check off this box or something. I just happened to be searching for something else and noticed it wasn't checked... even though I have it checked within Asus's software. Go figure.
