I know this is out there as I did it years ago but for the life of me can't remember what I used.

ya you can save pdfs as word documents from adobe itself but it just saves it as an image inside word

i'm looking for a converter that will convert the document so you can actually edit the text in word. any recommendations?

You could try printing it to a file.

I make myself laugh.

You need a copy of omnipage, or some other OCR scanning software.
If you want, you can e-mail me the file and I'll do it for you at work since we have OCR software. PM me or something if you're interested.

another problem is that it can't be software that has to be paid for. it has to be free...

Well, if there is free software for it, you need to be searching for free OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software.

hmmm that is an intresting idea OCR the one i mess with was used to convert high volume of document it was linux base too so it was not that hard but i didnt get to play with it much .

As to ya looking for free kind of software well try the torrents or news groups. im sure ya can easily find one there.

if ya dont like using torrent and underhand methods another way is if they give full trial version use that make a virtual OS set it up the way ya want take snap shot; then install the software and use it when time run out and ya need to use it again, just go back to snap shot reinstall the software and use it again lol.

lol uhh this is for Boeing....a multi billion dollar corporation. I can't be getting things on torrent. and can't be doing virtual OS setups and stuff like that.

i need free as in the author makes it freely available to anybody. no trials or anything.

if I could just remember what I used years ago. it was free and did exactly this.

Fuck that dude, they can pay for this shit.

When I worked at intel I would just point the employee to some software that would suit his needs and tell him to bill it to his business group. They have money set aside for this type of shit if there is a business need. As you said, they are a multi-billion dollar company.

Have you tried the simple gruntwork method of concatenated copy/paste operations for text and images?

I've done this, but I never have to deal with 40 page documents either... If you only need to convert a one or two page document though, copy/paste works just fine. First copy/paste the text, then save/insert the images.

Otherwise, Google throws a ton of stuff at me, like this one.
