Is there a reason not to buy a ps3? I mean the players cost damn near the same as a ps3

ps3 is pretty much your best bet. main reason is being (besides price) the bluray format isnt finalized (currently at 1.1, 2.0 being the projected final) which is to include network compatibility and internal storage, both of which the ps3 has thus making it pretty much future proof.

Yeah I thought I couldnt go wrong with it. I mean the price is good compared to just a player. Thanks.

this is why the bluray players are high as hell, sony wants you to buy the ps3.

why? so consumers will lavish in "gaming luxury", "bluray luxury", and "downloadable distribution luxury".

all of which a single stupid player cant do.

I haven't a reason to not believe the PS3 is a no-brainer. I agree with Torx, in that the PS# was priced as it is by design. Game licensing and all the different tech licensing that sony can take with the PS3 is so much more advantageous to sony than a mear BR player. Maybe they aren't as dumb as I was beleiving.

Sigh. So now I'm trailing even further behind in the tech-gadget area. I only got a DVD player (as a gift from someone who could afford it) a year ago, and we've never had a cell phone as of yet, and it's likely that we'll just let the TV turn into a weird looking picture-stand/brickabrack-table when 2009 rolls around. I swear, we still have a stereo system/clock from the era of 8-track tapes. The system has the 8-track tape player to prove it, too! CDs have not darkened the doorstep of this house, except for three Christmas music CDs I play during the Holidays on the computer. My latest game console is an old dinosaur of a Playstation, pre-PSOne style, which I occasionally play some FF8 on.

Oh well, I'll never miss what I never had, so I'm not about to start worrying about it now!

The PS3 is a great blu-ray player, firmware is easily updated over the net, and it upscales DVD's nicely.

sony is devious and is ruthless corp of the year in my book. Of coarse there was no doubt.....as I suspected Slashdot | Sony Paid Warner Bros. $400 Million to Go Blu-Ray?.
