Mount it differently using some padding.. when they're actually screwed and mounted into the case it echos/vibrates inside the case.

Yep. How many drives do you have, and what case?

Post some pics if you can.

I bought 6 thermaltake thunderblades, and replaced all 4 of my case fans, put one in the psu(the other was 92mm) and put a ati silencer3 on my radeon. My cpu cooler is a TT silent boost.

Heres the HDDs 2 of them.

That first picture makes me appreciate the hdd mounts on my Lian Li. It's also a pretty noise dampener. If take off the side panel, all hell breaks loose.

And how did you put a fan in your psu? Did I miss something from the other thread?

I took it apart, and switched the fan, I had to cut the old fans plug off, and soder(sp?) the new fan to the olf pulg.

mouse pad hdd silencer works wonders, my two seagates are on one on the bottom of my case and I can't hear them until they start rumbling (reading/writing), but when I had my two western digitals on there they were quieter at reading/writing so I didn't hear them at all.

If you want to quiet the HDDs, you could get something like this, which works very well: http://www.siliconacoustics.com/novibes3.html

Too bad it costs $30. You could do what I did before, just put a hard drive on something soft at the bottom of the case like foam, rubber, somehting like that. I used an old mouse pad. However since you have 2 HDDs, that makes things a little harder, since you can only do one in that ghetto way. Something to think about though.

And there are a million ways to rig up your own hard drive suspension system for just a few bucks too...

I could probably just fit a mouse pad on the sides of the harddrives in its metal casing, and just make holes in it and get larger screws.

That'll be a tight fit for sure

I guess you can always try.

However it has one flaw, with what you just said, there would still be a metal on metal connection from the HDD to the case, through the screws. Now, it would cut down the noise a lot I'm sure, but it could be better.

Take some really thin foam or spong and put it between the case and your hard drives. And use a foam washer under the head of the screws. the case will fundamentally vibrate with the hard drives and amplify the noise. thankfully my hard drives are unltra-silent

You can only quiet your HDD's spinning by suspendeding it on elastic or putting into a enclosure like a Sycthe enclosure, but you can quiet down the seek and write by using a software from Hitachi-IBM that would work on most HDD.

you could suspend the drives with bungee cord. that's what I wanted to do when I had 3 drives.

hm.....my pc is still horibbly. noisy. I've dropped it so many times the case is dented and rattles about like fuck...its got a bunch ofcheap fans and optical drives that sound like tractors.

My solution - buy the biggest speakers you can find. Then you cant even hear your pc! (or anything else for that matter 0_o )
