If you have admin rights, it shouldn't matter anway, policy or not. In your Network settings, right-click on your NIC and choose Properties. Click the Advanced tab, then click the settings button under the Windows Firewall heading. Click the radio button that says Off (Not Recommended) and hit Ok a couple times. If that doesn't work, just kill the service. Start>Run>net stop SharedAccess

You're not elaborating very well on what your problem. You have been very vague on your setup. I don't know if you have a switch or hub, dhcp server or statically assigned IPs, or maybe they're crossed over. I don't know what OS is on all the PCs. I don't know how many computers there are and who can see what. You need to be very detailed in what your problem is. At first you said it was the firewall and now you seem to be moving away from that entirely. So, in short, re-describe your problem and this time be VERY detailed. Don't leave anything out. You might want to read this while you are at it.:

ok, once again, lol. I have an ICS host computer, and my other computer is a file server, a computer in which i would like to store some files to save space. BUT, when i installed (windows xp proffessional) this pc, is a Slot 1 266 with 196 mbs of SDram, an 8 mb 3x agp-SiS 6326, and a matrox 8 gig IDE hrddrv. GROUP POLICY, was blocking my option of editing whether or not windows firewall was turned on or off, it said for my security, group policy is in control of windows firewall. Now i think, windows firewall, is preventing my ICS host from accessing any files on the other pc, it may not be, but like ive said before im not that familiar with networks. Q I went through the process of setting up a home or small office network, made my ICS host sharing its connection, and made the other connecting to the internet through this computer. can i get any more detailed than that?? lol, HELP!!!

You you can get more detailed. I still don't know if you have a switch or not and how the computers are connected together. I also still don't know if you have DHCP on your router, if you have one. I'll tell you what, open paint and draw a schematic for me. Just put boxes, lines and model numbers of how they are connected together.

If everything is going through the ics box then that sounds like the problem. It's probably blocking incoming traffic to the other boxes.

I would just buy a router and make your life a whole lot easier.
