Alright, on bootup Win XP Home crashes (BSOD). The comp reboots to fast to see what's going on. So I jump into the win XP CD, hit R for the recovery console, select the install (1), and then I get a BSOD, which says "Registry_Error".

Alright, so I figure the install is completely messed up and I need to just do a complete install again.

Reboot, get to Welcome to Setup screen from XP CD. Hit enter to get on with it, Hit F8 to agree to the EULA, and then another BSOD. WTF is going on here? It BSOD's after it starts looking for previous installations.

Is the RAM Bad? The computer started doing this recently, so I don't know what's going on.

Maybe the hard drive has gone bad?

Please help.

I have no idea on most of the specs. It's a friend of a friend's computer.

1.8ghz P4
256 MB ram

That's about all the specs I can give ya.

What's the error on the BSOD? Is the CD possibly corrupt/damaged?

Error on BSOD was "REGISTRY_ERROR".

Anyways, I finally just figured out how to fix this. I downloaded a win98 bootdisk, downloaded the new fdisk to allow fdisk to recognize 64gig+ drives correctly, and then just deleted the partition.

Thanks for your help, hopefully this will be a lesson to us all.
