I have an amd k8v s deluxe mobo that is currently running windows on a pata drive and I recently accuired an sata I drive. I thought it would be a matter of connecting it to the system and enabling the sata controller in the bios but after booting into XP I get no mention of the drive. Nothing shows up in disk managment either. The hard drive previously had a copy of XP on it (it was not formated).

What do I need to do to get this thing to work? Are there certain issues I should be aware about with sata drives?

I have sata and like you said, enable the bios plug and play. I did have a power issue once but that was the molex 4plug to sata dongle that was bad. Maxtor support pages may help you.

Like puffer said, it might just be a matter of sata drivers... check out asus' website for the drivers.. typically, when installing drivers on a SATA drive, you'll have to hit F7 (or whatever it is) when installing XP, so it'll install the drivers for ya.. With this not being the case, no drivers installed..

I tried installing some drivers but it didn't take the asus ones, I then tried installing some via ones that took but in device manager one of the components wont start.
