I saw SATA adapters from IDE and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these, and do they work well with SATA 3.0? I've only see adapters that go to 1.5. Any ideas are welcome. Oh, BTW this will be my first new build in over three years. Trying to save on buying hardware (not HDD, but DVD-RW, and DVD-ROM). As always I respect everyone's opinion. Thanks for replying.

I am always against putting money into old technology. That $10-15 you put towards one of those IDE to SATA converters can go towards a new drive. Thats just me though.

Keep in mind if you use a converter you will be limited to IDE speeds, same with using a PCI SATA card you will be limited to the speed of the PCI slot.

Unless you are a hard core computer nerd, I doubt anyone would notice any speed difference between ide and sata.

I've got a USB to SATA/IDE adapter and that works great. I would think you'd be fine with it, given you're just talking about doing optical drives.
