So my Avast subscription expired on my XP box, so I figured I'd install AVG since a lot of you recommended it and it's free. However the version I downloaded and installed only appears to have a 30 day free trial, with no mention of a free version anywhere. Am I missing something?

Unfortunately version 8.0 was just released and it's not free. 7.5 won't be supported/available anymore, however I have installed the AVG Network Edition several times and I believe the 1 license Internet Security is basically the same...it's a very nice package.

Perfect. Fuck. Ok stay here and get... butt fucked by 12 Neanderthals. Bitch

It's free as always. AVG tries to get you to buy the whole shebang security package. For me though, even the free version as of 8.0, has too much crud in it, and I miss the old update download progress bar.

I thought Avast was free as well. Did they go non-free?

Please let me know if the version I linked to is actually free. I run Ubuntu, so I can't test it, and the free version has no support for MS Win2K3.

8.0 is free and i put it on all my clients computers unless they want to pay for a more "secure" antivirus for that "secure feeling", then i only suggest kas or avast.

8.0 is something else, theyve really stepped up the UI design and it looks and runs really nice..

I have used avg 7.5 since december; a lot of my phone/internet customer's raved about it and the 'free' updates.

AVG kept putting up 'end of license' notes in jan and feb, but, hey still getting daily updates

I have some questions;

1. Is there any advantage for me to upgrade to avg 8 from 7.5?

2. What am I missing from having the 'paid for' version of either 7.5 or 8 by using the 'free' version?

still impressed with avg; it pulled up some 'adware' last week!

The "paid for" version is like all other software; it suffers from feature creep.

AVG free 8.0 will run on Win2K, by the way, unless you're talking about Win2k Server. It's listed as one of the supported systems.

It's still free, but they've cracked down on using one key on several machines apparently. Until now I could register once with my email address and use that key on the 4 PCs at home. I tried that again when it expired and it's wanting a unique key for each one. I've already used my work email, home email, and wife's email. It's just an irritation.

Well, I still prefer NOD32, but I guess you can't beat free.
