| | 'PXE-E61:Media test failure, check cable...' Please help me. | permalink #1 |
| Junior Member | I just got a new computer that someone custom made for me that worked fine until I tried to install a Linksys Wireless Network card, but when I turned my computer on I got this error message: Intel UNDI, PXE -2.0 (build 082) Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation For Realtek RTL81105/81695 Gigabit Ethernet Controller v1.01 (030820) PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM. I'm not to experienced with setting up computers 'cause I have never had to so I need to know what exactly to do and what effect it will have... I would like any help on this issue, if you have any questions concerning what hardware I am using with the PC, ask and I'll try to tell you what it is... Thanks in advance for any help provided. -TCG | |

| Senior Member | For some reason your computer is not booting or cannot boot from the hard drive as originnally intended. It goes through its other boot options, last resort being trying to boot from the network, which fails because there is no cable (Media Test Failure - no cable plugged in in most cases). Check your IDE cable connection from motherboard to harddrive. | |

| Senior Member | Does it boot now? Check BIOS settings to make sure HDD is one of the boot sources. Check boot screen to make sure your hard drive shows up. If both are true but it still doesnt boot, the drive might've become corrupted, try using Windows XP installation CD to repair your install (if it will be neccessery or possible). Quote:

| Junior Member | Well, I can't find my HDD on the BIOS list or the boot screen so there must be something wrong with the HDD or the cable that connects it to the MB. | |
