Been having some problems lately with a Sony DVD+/- RW. On a completely clean windows xp installation, CDs ripped without any problems, but now all ripping software is either freezing or going very slow (1x and lower). Tried iTunes, WMP, and CDex, but it's all the same.

Tried installing the adaptec ASPI drivers/forceASPI, but that also didn't work.

Sound will only play from the CD for only one second, no matter which CD.

Haven't tried: new drive, or updating firmware

system specs:
3000+ A64
1GB dual channel corsair value
Sapphire 9600 XT
Sony dvdrw dw-d26a
ASUS K8N (onboard sound and LAN)
160GB WD hdd caviar (IDE)
