Hey I was wondering if you guys think its worth getting a PNY6600GT?

I see they sell on newegg for 140 dollars or so. I can get it from someone for 80 bucks. Right now my system is this.

250 Watt PSU
AMD Barton 2500+
768 DDR ram @ 3200
80 Gig WD
120 Gig WD
300 GiG Seagate
DVD Burner
Geforce 4 4200

I'll probably need a new PSU as well, maybe than I will O/C the Barton. Anyone here try that? I don't know how I can tell if mine is O/Cable.

Also, whats a good cheap LCD monitor thats 15inch or 17inch?

looks like a good deal. 350Watt PSU is the card's minumum so i would probaly go with a 400 Watt PSU at least. maybe more because you'll be pulling a lot from the 12V line with those 3 hard drives.

Sounds like a deal to me! And the PSU thing is bullcrap, if you ask me. I was running a GeForce 6600GT with a 300w PSU up until a couple of months ago, and my PC was rock solid. In your case, though, a new PSU is a must. Do yourself a favor and get a brand name.

I'm more than happy with my Chaintech 6600GT. I went from a Abit 4200 OTES to the Chaintech 6600GT and it was a great improvement.

I would buy a new PSU if I were you. 250watts isn't much.

Any AMD chip will overclock. You may not see 2.5ghz, but most Chips pull a couple hundred MHz easily.

Abit or Asus make really good everything. I had a Chaintech Ti4200 that was awesome.

I make myself laugh.

Fucking shit, I don't know what to do, I want to build a new computer, but at the same time i'm cheap because I don't know if I will take it to the University when I go. I would probably fear of it being stolen or something.

*I forgot to mention that PNY is one of the few companies that manufacture Quadros (nVidia's professional video cards).

$80 for that used GeForce 6600GT and, like, $60 for a decent 350w PSU is all you need to keep that PC running for one more year. You could even overclock it and stretch it a bit more....
If, however, you're unsure of whether you'll keep that PC for that long, then I suggest you start saving up for a new system. A desktop replacement doesn't sound half bad, but the price might be too steep.

Ya, I want to get the video card, but, I also want a new case (Antec P150) and a LCD, and speakers. Everything is just stacking up in prices. I think I'm just going to wait until that Chernobyl game comes out and see what it needs.
